Calusa Brewing is a family-owned and operated brewery in Sarasota, Florida. Since opening our doors in April, 2016 we have seen an amazing response to our hop-forward and mixed-culture sour beers. With the recent purchase of a canning line and increased expansion for total capacity, we are looking to add another valuable member to our production team.
Calusa Brewing Assistant Brewer/Cellar person job description:
The Brewer will work with Calusa's tightknit Production Team to produce interesting, flavorful and unique hop forward and clean/sour barrel aged beers. Primary responsibilities are to produce wort from grain to glass, cellaring and product transfers. Other tasks include lifting/moving items weighing 55+ lbs (i.e. cases and full kegs), driving a forklift, climbing ladders, and safe handling of various chemicals associated with the brewing process. Members of our Production team should be proactive, experienced, possess a positive attitude and keep an immaculately clean work space.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow proper SOPs in all aspects of production
Wort production on a 15 barrel Premier brewhouse
CIP and COP of fermentation vessels and brewhouse
Yeast handling and cell counting
Transferring beer from fermentation to bright beer tanks
Wort and beer transfers to and from oak barrels
Assist Head Brewer and all Production Team members in all aspects of their perspective roles
Participate in Team Meetings
Adhere to all safety protocols set in place by Calusa Brewing
Assisting in the filling, labeling and packaging of various bottle sizes and cans
Maintaining accurate and clear records using brewery software
Abilities and Skills:

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Be at least 21 years of age
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
One or more years brewing at a similarly sized craft brewery
Valid driver’s license with no restrictions
Able to lift 35lbs; able to move 55lbs using tools such as a hand truck or a forklift.
Able to kneel and stoop occasionally.
Able to stand and work for up to 12 hours at a time in a Florida based warehouse setting capable of reaching high temperatures.
Flexible schedule to include nights or weekends as required.
Desired Qualifications:
Two or more years brewing at a similarly sized brewery
Forklift certifications and aptitude
Experience handling, brewing and cellaring sour beer
Brewing degrees or trade certifications
Mechanical and maintenance-based experience with various brewery related machinery (i.e. chiller, boiler, ect…)
Basic computer skills and aptitude
This is a full time, position. Salary/wage will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Includes 80 hours per year paid time off on an accrual basis.
