Cellar Technician
JOB DESCRIPTION
The primary responsibility of the Cellar Technician is to oversee all cold-side operations including separation, CIP, dry hopping, transfers, and barrel racking among many other tasks. Working brewery experience or a diploma from a comprehensive brewing education program is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundational knowledge of brewing science, a passion for making beer, and a variety of food or beverage related experience. The Cellar technician must coordinate with the Brewing, Packaging, and Quality staff to effectively manage the processing of beer to meet the demands of the production schedule. Secondary responsibilities may include assistance in hot-side wort production and local deliveries. This is an entry level position. A focused, intelligent, and hardworking individual will be able to advance very quickly in this position. This position starts at 20 hours a week with potential for 40 hours after a trial period.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assistance with yeast handling and management
Cellaring duties including fermentation management
CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment
Operation of centrifuge for beer clarification
Careful execution of treatment plans for specialty beers
Logging of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging
Following SOP (standard operating procedure) in each phase of fermentation, clarification, carbonation and packaging
Maintaining sanitary practices in all aspects of beer processing
Executing preventative maintenance on all brewhouse and cellar equipment
Preparation, filling, transfer of beer from liquor and wine barrels
Assistance with lab testing and other Quality Assurance activities
REQUIREMENTS
A strong passion for brewing and a desire to advance personal growth in the brewing industry
Some understanding of brewing aspects, including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization
Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime
Computer literate with some understanding of Microsoft Office/spreadsheet programs
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work as part of a team
EXPERIENCE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING IS PREFERABLE:
An understanding of quality assurance (QA) methods and techniques, laboratory operations, and basic knowledge of chemistry and biology
Prior packaging, bottling, and racking experience
Mechanical experience and aptitude
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
