    A unique Master Brewer opportunity on the Cartridge Brewing team (a brewpub/taproom concept) for an experience brewer who is driven by creativity and focused on quality above all else. Looking for someone who not only has the ability but is excited to be a part of establishing a startup business in a phenomenal historical landmark being brought back to life – the Peters Cartridge Factory. Looking for a brewer who is ready to tackle any and all challenges to be an integral part of our collaborative team focused on our mission of honoring the past, and brewing the future.

    The Master Brewer will be a key contributor in designing, building, layout, and developing systems and processes on a 15BBL Two-Vessel Specific Mechanical brewing system within our 10,000+ square foot renovated brewery and taproom room to be located within the revitalized historical landmark Peters Cartridge Factory community in the Northeast Suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio. Cartridge Brewing’s targeted opening date is late 2019. Construction has already started.


    ABOUT CARTRIDGE BREWING:

    On the banks of the Little Miami River lies the historic Peters Cartridge Factory, a local landmark that was once a community hub and the heart of Kings Mills. The space is now getting a new lease on life and will become home to Cartridge Brewing. With a full-service kitchen and 15bbl brewhouse dedicated to a variety of taproom beers and a selection of special bottle releases, Cartridge Brewing will help restore the Peters Cartridge Factory to its former glory as a gathering place for the Kings Mills Community in late 2019.

    The historic ammunition factory dates back to 1916 and sits next to the Little Miami River and Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail. The site's redevelopment is underway, being led by owners/redevelopers Bloomfield Schon, and is on target to be completed in late 2019. The entire Peters Cartridge Factory site includes ~135 residences, Cartridge Brewing (10,000 sq ft commercial), a proposed private event space, and 1 additional commercial space.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The candidate will be creative, safety-minded, efficient, quality-focused, possess a great work ethic, a positive attitude, and be a team player. The Master Brewer is an immediate member of the management team reporting directly to the COO with immediate equity share and option to earn additional equity through performance. As part of the management team, the Master Brewer will be expected to contribute to our continued growth, constantly displaying a high level of maturity, responsibility, and pride in our work. With the freedom of recipe development, the Master Brewer should have a refined palate with the imagination and experience to formulate recipes that are approachable, aggressive, fun, and industry leading. The right candidate must be willing to establish and grow our sour, aging, and large format bottle program. Candidates must seek to be challenged and embrace the challenge of a startup brewery. They must also share Cartridge Brewing’s’ commitments to quality, safety, business ethics, and continuous innovation.

    • Interview, hire, train, motivate and supervise all brewery and cellar personnel
    • Maintain the highest possible quality for all beer produced by establishing and overseeing all QA/QC efforts
    • Possess a good understanding of quality assurance/quality control and problem solving skills and to troubleshoot any beer related issues
    • Plan the brewhouse and cellar schedule based on information provided by upper management
    • Be responsible for the entire brewing and quality control processes and hence should be well versed in scheduling, brewing, recipe development, cellaring, yeast management, draught systems, and packaging operations.
    • Maintain complete and accurate brewery records.
    • Write SOP’s for all brewhouse and cellar operations and train personnel
    • Ensure a safe work environment and provide safety training.
    • Schedule personnel to fulfill brewhouse and cellar operations
    • Recommend operational business improvements to management
    • Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
    • Schedule and execute maintenance and repairs to minimize brewery down time
    • Train junior production employees (including safety training)
    • Maintain inventory and order raw materials, supplies and chemicals required to produce beer
    • Maintain a clean, safe and well organized facility
    • Perform all brewery functions at a superior level
    • Collaborate with upper management on social media campaigns and educational events for customers
    • Work well independently, as well as in a team environment.
    • Retain hands-on leadership skills for developing and training a team.
    • Manage client & vendor relationships.
    • Participate in events, festivals, promotions, etc.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • A Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in related discipline and/or certification or graduation from an accredited Brewer Training Institution.
    • Completed apprenticeship in brewery setting
    • 3-5 years progressive industry related experience
    • A minimum of one year of experience providing work direction or supervising cellar personnel in a brewery
    • Strong communications skills
    • Ability to manage, train, and motivate production staff
    • Proven mechanical aptitude
    • Knowledge of beer production, storage and packaging
    • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping skills
    • Enthusiasm and strong personal knowledge of the microbrewery industry and market
    • Thorough knowledge of MS Office
    • Ability to interact effectively at all levels within the organization
    • Ability to multi-task and be flexible
    • Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 170 pounds
