We are a nano with a 2bbl system. We recently placed our second order of crowler cans from Crowler Nation. 4800 cans in total.
When beginning to fill the cans, I noticed that there was a substance on the bottom of the cans and on closer inspection, it looked like additional BPA NI from the normal can liner. This would be fine, however the coating was bubbling and in some cases loose with a gap between the bottom of the can and the liner. The cans that are affected worst have a blue dot on the bottom. we believe this is some sort of quality control measure. Not sure why these cans slipped through. These cans make up around 40% of the stock we received.
We are trying to work through the issue with Crowler Nation, though they are not taking any responsibility and are yet to offer any kind of compensation or resolution other than:
"What we see from your pictures is an excess of the BPA -NI liner that is in all cans. Although it looks like it might be flaking it is cured and should not be coming off at all. Ball has been made aware of this instance and this should not be an issue for your beer. What we see from your pictures is an excess of the BPA -NI liner that is in all cans. We have just sent additional photos and video which you can see here - https://photos.app.goo.gl/bCRzJZZZwQgTyfye9 and are waiting on a response.
There is no way we can use the affected cans as there is a risk the coating may flake off into the beer and also, an increased risk of infection due to the bubbling and crevices making the can harder to sanitize.
What do you guys think regarding this issue?
