    POSITION DESCRIPTION
    The Senior Engineer-Machine Design/R&D will lead from within the Research & Development department to coordinate & execute the design, prototype & testing activities as well as the delivery of all engineering and manufacturing related documentation to internal and external customers while managing the scope & schedule and communicating status to the organization.
    • Design, prototype, and develop bills of material for filling machines and systems
    • Develop and track innovation project scopes & schedules
    • Deliver prototype products to internal and external customers on time, every time
    • Deliver detailed manufacturing data to Manufacturing, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (lessons learned) to promote flawless launch in a production environment
    • Create a strong communication link with the entire organization to ensure prototype project scopes, timelines and expectations are clear
    • Participate in all design review activities/meetings; communicate product status and identify obstacles to meeting pre-defined timelines
    • Develop, document & execute prototype test plans
    • Document product/process changes related to prototype
    • Track all costs associated with each project to ensure prototype related costs are properly applied
    • Work closely with the production team and provide input at early stages of product development to ensure product requirements can be met using robust/proven manufacturing methods
    • Seek cost-effective, robust, and repeatable manufacturing solutions when developing prototype products; utilize equipment which proves most economical, capable, and take best advantage of excess capacity (DFM / DFA)
    • Update ERM with pertinent manufacturing data obtained during prototype manufacturing and BOM development
    • Interact with Purchasing to ensure timely procurement and delivery of prototype components and accurate BOM management
    • Prepare and distribute written status reports weekly for prototype activities and release readiness; verbally present to the management team

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar applicable discipline
    • 5+ years of experience in machine design
    o Preference will be given to candidates with food and beverage packaging industry experience
    o Familiarity with FDA clean/sanitary design best practices is a plus
    • Experience leading interdisciplinary engineering projects and teams

    SKILLS & SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
    • Demonstrated problem analysis and creative problem resolution skills
    • Strong project management skills; manage, schedule, and track multiple products and processes simultaneously while stressing an emphasis on meeting pre-defined timelines
    • Independent decision-making abilities
    • Ability to lead subordinates and support values and culture
    • Communicate project status/results to all levels of the organization
    • Experience with 3D modeling; preference given to candidates with SolidWorks experience, including any simulation packages and/or PDM
    • Experience with ERM software (NetSuite preferred)
    • Self-motivated with the ability to identify/implement process improvements, assist in driving cost-reduction opportunities, and applying lean manufacturing principles in the context of innovation design projects
    • Ability to work closely with manufacturing personnel to produce prototype products with minimal disruption to production schedules
    • Ability to work with service technicians to diagnose and resolve issues with machines in the field
    • Ability to manage vendors and other external resources
