  • Hops as Decration

I have some hops that will be past their best at some point soon. I have heard of trendy bars that use them as decoration and thought they might look good in our tap room.

Does any one know how to do this?

They won't last long. The cones will start to fall apart as they age. Maybe you could string them up like Christmas popcorn and then hit them with some clear spray lacquer to preserve them.

We had hops growing out front for shade on the porch for years. It sucked. They're incredibly nasty, covered with aphids which continuously rain honeydew (aphid piss, almost pure sugar water) which attracts swarms of wasps and hornets and you really don't want to brush up against a hop vine when wearing short sleeves.

They're gone now. The rhizomes were several inches in dia, and it took a lot to kill them.

When fresh hops are in season, we set a few bowls of cones out on the bar to remind folks that we have truly fresh-hopped beer.
