Mt Tabor Brewing Head Brewer Position
Mt Tabor is a small production brewery & tasting room located in the heart of SE Portland that has been producing award winning ales & lagers since 2010. We have taken our time to grow in to the 15bbl system that we currently run and have the capacity to produce 1500+ barrels a year. We take great responsibility in what we do and have a strong sense of pride in the quality of the beers we produce in which we expect that of all our employees as well.
This person will be responsible for the head brewer position with the primary function of performing brewing and cellar operations all while ensuring that our quality control expectations are being met.
Summary:
The Head Brewing position at Mt Tabor Brewing is a lead position that will encompass a wide range of daily activities. A successful candidate will be a self-starter with a safety minded determination and sense of urgency. Being self-motivated with an attention to detail and above all the desire to make world class beer in a highly competitive arena is a must for this opportunity. The Head Brewery must be able to spend most of the day on their feet in a wet environment all while multi-tasking when the job requires it. He/She must have the ability to lay out their day, complete the tasks at hand and keep production moving in an efficient and safe manor in order to be successful at this position.
While we strive for a healthy work life balance at Mt Tabor Brewing there are times that the job functions might require more flexibility in schedules. There may be times that evening and weekend work will be necessary and we will do our best to accommodate the changes as necessary.
We are a small company so a “whatever it takes” attitude is required of all employees in order to keep the company moving forward. There may be times that the Head Brewer is called to represent the company at public events, beer festivals and other social outings. A strong sense of pride in the beers we produce as well as the company we work for is key to the overall success of the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To:
Perform Head Brewer Activities
Daily QC checks on fermenting products
Maintain, adjust and adapt the production brewing schedule
Tank transfers & CIP
Keg cleaning and keg filling
Maintain clean facilities and equipment at all times
Yeast management
Brewery maintenance
All other duties assigned or assessed
Position Qualifications:
Formal brewing education or professional brewing experience
Strong attention to detail is a must
Self-motivation is crucial
Ability to follow instructions and execute directions consistently (brew sheets)
Able to lift 60 pounds on a regular basis and frequently lift 160 pound kegs
Forklift Certified (or willing to become certified)
Comfortable in confined spaces
Able to kneel, bend over and work on your feet throughout the day
Possess initiative and ability to problem solve
Able to work on your own on a regular basis
Knowledge and passion for beer and the brewing process
Salary dependent on experience
