Cellar/Brewer Person
This job is for a select person ready to work up to 4-10-hour days, Friday through Monday. This could be a part- or full-time gig. This job will require early morning starts and handle mostly cellar jobs at first and progressing with training on the brewhouse. Periodic brew shifts will be available on Fridays, Mondays, and fill-ins when needed. Within the next year, the position will be open for weekend brewing shifts.
Free Will Brewing Company is looking for someone to join our brewing and cellar team in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. Compensation will be in accordance with experience. We currently operate on a 3-vessel 15-barrel brewhouse. Cellar tanks include a wide array of 15, 30, and 60 bbl tanks. Our wood cellar includes about 80 clean beer casks and many sour casks and foudres.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Fermentation management
• Tank CIPs
Malt Handling and yeast management
Cleaning, sanitation and maintenance of all brewery equipment, incl. brewhouse, fermentation vessels, brite tanks, transfer and filter equipment
• Assisting in quality assurance and quality control
Participation in events on and off property, Brew dinners, tastings, tours, events etc.
• Ability to operate a forklift and other mechanical equipment
• Daily recording of brewing/fermentation data
• Wort production and brewhouse cleaning
Desired Skills and Experience:
• 1-3 years’ experience brewing and/or cellaring
• Strong mechanical background and equipment operation experience
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Willingness to work hard in a fast-paced environment with high volume growth potential.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail
• High degree of intellectual curiosity and desire to learn
• Computer skills (web-based email, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs and Sheets)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Minimum lift requirement is 55lbs
• Perform safe operation of material handling equipment for the purpose of receiving, sorting, counting, storing, staging, picking, locating, relocating, and delivering materials with accuracy
• Ability to ascend and descend staircases repeatedly
• Ability to work in extreme cold and heat conditions
• Ability to work in a moderate to high noise levels
• Assist in other areas when possible/needed
• Willingness to work on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery is required
