General Summary:
Masthead Brewing is a fast growing, locally owned and operated craft brewery and restaurant in Downtown Cleveland, OH. Since we opened our doors in January 2017, we've nabbed a bronze and gold at GABF and made BeerAdvocate's list of Best New Breweries in 2018. We are seeking a full time candidate to take the reigns in our existing lab.
The perfect fit for us will go the extra mile in both ability and desire. Beyond owning QA/QC for the brewery, we are looking for a trusted team member that can contribute to our long term success. Experience in the brewing industry is not required, but a passion for manufacturing and craft beer is a must.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Have a strong passion for craft beer. This is the first topic in all our interviews.
• Follow and/or create SOPs to ensure all team members perform their duties with quality mindset and focus
• Possess / develop a deep knowledge of all aspects of beer and brewing, from the production of malt and hops through to packaged product.
• Prepare weekly sensory tests for members of the sensory analysis team
• Enter all QA/QC related tasks into our ERP system
• Maintain all calibration and testing logs for quality-related equipment and processes
• Maintain a safe and sanitary workspace; follow all company safety and quality procedures
• Ensure all lab materials are property entered into our SDS binders
• Engage with quality-focused industry groups, like the Master Brewers Association of America
• Cross train key employees on quality lab tasks where appropriate
• Maintain a positive, forward-looking and solutions-focused attitude
• Perform in-process and post-packaging sensory evaluation
Personal Competencies:
• Remain calm under pressure or when dealing with unexpected production delays or changes
• Be a strong and trusting team player
• Maintain relationships with coworkers, vendors and other breweries
• Basic problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
Supervision:
• Uses independent action in setting objectives and deciding how to proceed
• Duties are given in the form of broad goals or areas of responsibility
• Stay busy through slow periods
• Use company applications to communicate and update other employees
Hours, Travel and Physical Requirements:
• Typically work normal working hours Monday - Friday with occasional instances outside of those times
• Work in a standing position for long periods of time
• Request time off two weeks in advance
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work in heat, cold and wet
• Physically able and willing to drive a forklift with training
