GENERAL MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

DRÍFA BREWING
of the
MARQUETTE BREWING COOPERATIVE
Drífa Brewing will be opening in Marquette, Michigan in the early summer of 2019 as the first cooperative brewery in Michigan. The General Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the daily operations, sales and team management. An upbeat, positive demeanor, excellent leadership and communication skills, and high-level organization skills, along with financial management experience are crucial for this position. The ideal candidate will also be passionate about craft beer and/or be willing to learn what makes craft beer special.
FUNCTIONS
Financial and payroll reporting, record keeping, accountability, forecasting of sales, costs and profits
Development of and compliance with operational standards, company policies, and Federal, State, and Local laws, licensing, and regulations
Hire, train, motivate, evaluate, schedule and supervise a team of employees
Security procedures, creating a safe working and guest environment
Sanitation practices and all relevant trainings
Managing events, festivals, food trucks, and entertainment
Managing member relations and outreach
Facilitate positive interactions among all staff, customers, vendors, and the board of directors
Think critically, troubleshoot and work unsupervised
Inventory management and ordering
Bartend as needed
Develop comprehensive marketing plan including social media and other formats
Managing all relevant technology within the brewery
Collaborate with head brewer and maintain high-level knowledge of all beers brewed
Coordinate maintenance of indoor and outdoor spaces
Reports to and evaluated by the board of directors
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Understanding of basic cooperative principles, philosophy, and operations
Provide and follow oral and written instructions
Positively and professionally represent the brewery to the public and at events
Must be punctual, responsible, self-motivated, positive and an excellent communicator
Strong computer skills necessary for record keeping and the point-of-sale system
Understanding of accounting, finance, and payroll
Strong work ethic and desire to succeed
Multi-task and manage time efficiently
Marketing / graphic design skills preferred
Must be over 21 years of age
Appreciation and working understanding of craft beer, along with a desire to continue learning
High standards in quality, customer service and cleanliness
Money management, scheduling, fundraising
Ability and motivation to see startup brewery succeed and grow
Work calmly and effectively under pressure
Familiarity with required Licensing and Labor Laws
Determine applicability of experience and qualifications of job applicants
Maintain a low staff turnover rate and keep appropriate staffing numbers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required
Relevant higher education degree preferred
Experience working in management capacity, preferably within the craft brewing or hospitality industries
Knowledge of budget planning, payroll processing, financial reporting, and Quickbooks
Experience in building and maintaining business relationships
Experience with developing and executing sales and marketing strategies
Knowledge of craft beer brewing, beer service, beer tasting, and beer styles
Willing to wear multiple hats
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a full-time salaried position
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Expected to be on-site, working nights, weekends and holidays as needed
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to routinely see, hear, walk, sit, stand, lift, squat, reach, bend, twist, kneel and carry objects weighing up to 55 pounds on occasion
Must be at least 21 years of age
Moderate to loud noise level

Negotiable and commensurate with education and experience
