Saison Cellar Operator:
Position Summary: Hill Farmstead Brewery has an immediate opening for a full-time position dedicated to our saison and mix fermentation cellar. The ideal candidate will be responsible for oversight of all saison cellar activities from fermentation through aging and packaging. Hill Farmstead values employees that are critical thinkers, excellent communicators, and excel in positive, collaborative environments.
The general duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
• Yeast propagation, tracking, and management
• Sensory analysis of all products on an as-needed basis
• Creation and implementation of production schedules
• Ensuring quality packaging of bottles/kegs/cans (DO levels, CO2 levels, priming rates, yeast hydration, sensory sign-off, visual presentation, and packaging advancement/ efficiency/ yields)
• Barrel management (acquiring/ cleaning/ filling/ tasting/ emptying/ blending/ bottling)
• Batch tracking and inventory management
• Raw materials tracking and inventory management
• Facility maintenance/ cleaning/ well-being on a daily and continual basis
• Equipment optimization and preventative maintenance
• Cellar management (CIP/ dry-hopping, transfers)
• Assist in weekend duties rotation (gravities/carbs/utilities checks/etc.)
• Packaging (bottles/ kegs/ cans)
• Cask beer program for on-site consumption
• QA/QC duties
• Oversee production support when needed
• Assist in staff education
• Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
• Minimum five years professional brewing experience
• Impeccable written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Critical thinker with unwavering attention to details
• Exceptional sensory analysis skills and vocabulary
• Collaborative team player
• Extensive experience working with barrel-aged beers
• Formal brewing education or college-level equivalent
