    93 Octane Brewery is seeking an experienced Head Brewer (and other positions) to assist on the opening of a new brewery in suburban Chicago. Our brand new facility is slated to open this summer, positions are available immediately. Head Brewer will report to the Director of Brewery Operations and have substantial input on all aspects of the beer produced and brewery operations (team leader, manage production, add to creative and innovative items, manage barrel ageing program, expand sales and footprint, etc.).


    Since this is a new brewery, ability to create SOPs and brewery operations from ground up are extremely important.

    Candidates must be organized, work fast and independently, detail oriented, accurate, and be a self-starter while understanding the collaborative needs from the team.

    Responsibilities:
    • Managing and mentoring other brewers along with the entire team
    • Organize and maintain the brewing / packaging calendar with this small brewery
    • Maintain accurate records / logs regarding recipes, batches, inventory, etc.
    • Order, maintain inventory, etc. as needed on this 10 bbl brew system
    • Host events and tours on premise and participate off premise
    • Perform regular brewing and cellar operations
    • Operate canning, kegging and bottling equipment as needed
    • Operating keg cleaning equipment
    • Monitor fermentation
    • Maintain beer quality at all steps in production
    • Work with clean-in-place chemicals based on standard operating procedures
    • Ensure equipment and facilities are clean, operable, and safe
    • Follow operating procedures and safety protocols in all aspects of production
    • Receive deliveries of raw materials
    • Prepare outgoing beer shipments
    • Troubleshoot technical problems and propose solutions

    Experience
    • 1-5 years of brewing/cellaring/packaging experience in a production brewery
    • 3+ products brought to market independently
    • Professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills


    Expectations and abilities:
    • Stand for 8-12 hour work shifts
    • Work occasional early/late shifts, sporadic weekend events
    • Work well with a team and be flexible
    • Safely handle hazardous chemicals according to standard operating procedures
    • Work in manufacturing environment with humidity and temperature shifts
    • Able to frequently lift 55+ lbs. and push/pull/move objects over 200 pounds, including maneuvering ½ barrels and ageing barrels.
    • Able to sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl
    • Must have transportation to/from work and to/from local events
    • Mechanical aptitude
