    Laboratory Technician / Cellarperson

    Job Summary:
    Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company, a production brewery and taproom in Framingham, Massachusetts, is seeking a Lab Technician/Cellarperson to join our team. We are looking to continue to develop our Quality Program and Laboratory, so we are seeking an experienced laboratory technician, or a brewer who has the skills and desire to help grow our lab program. The successful applicant will be willing to work directly with brewing, cellar and packaging staff to manage our high standards of quality with precision and care, while testing and collecting all the necessary data on all batches of beer. This position is part of our brewing team, and will audit and support the quality of our processes, procedures, and products to assure we are in tune with our high quality standards. This position will likely be 75% in the lab and 25% in the brewery assisting in the needs of the production team.

    This newly developed role will be responsible for all data collection and chemical/microbiological analysis of our beers - from fermentation to packaging to aging (and beyond). Specific duties include but are not limited to:

    Fermentation data collection/management
    QC/QA testing and analytics
    Lots of data collection on all aspects of production materials, processes, systems, etc.
    Sensory panel program development
    Attending production meetings
    Working with our lab equipment

    Other tasks may include assisting with CIP, CUP, keg cleaning, packaging, cellar work, and wort production, taking gravity and pH readings of beers, and a thoroughly great time being part of our crew.

    Job Responsibilities:
    Taking measurements of pH and specific gravity of every batch of beer throughout its entire life cycle, QC lab testing, can seam testing, can DO/CO2 monitoring, sensory and general lab support.
    General ownership of cellaring tasks and cellar cleaning.
    Ability to use a Hach Spectrometer, Invisible Sentinel Thermocycler, Hanna pH meter, and other tools.
    Execution of processes for CIP, SIP, and CUP of all process equipment.
    Inspection and ensuring that products and processes are free from contamination;
    Conducting yeast harvest, cell counting, and communicating directly with brewing staff regarding all yeast in house.
    Carbonating and dissolved oxygen monitoring using Cbox standards.
    Becoming familiar with our brewhouse procedures to develop and run tests on wort.
    Various general maintenance jobs as needed, such as sweeping, squeegeeing, general cleaning, scrubbing walls, etc.
    Various production duties as needed, such as catching cans off the packaging line, cleaning kegs, etc.
    Having fun at work, cranking tunes in the lab, volunteering at charity events (optional, unpaid), signing up for beer festivals (paid!).
    Effective communication with Exhibit ‘A’ staff, management and ownership.
    Develop and maintain a top-notch laboratory and QA/QC program above all else.

    Job Qualifications:
    2+ years experience in a production brewery performing laboratory or cellar duties.
    Must have a strong ability to multi-task and self-initiate tasks.
    Fork Truck Certified or willing to become Fork Truck Certified (paid for by the company)
    Ability to work a 35-40 hour week with a set schedule.
    Must have own vehicle, valid Driver’s License, current insurance coverage and clean driving record.
    Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, talk, laugh, listen, use hands, grasp small and large process parts, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl or bend, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists;
    Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds safely, and be able to move kegs which weigh close to 175 pounds (but never alone!).
    Must love being a part of a dynamic, hard-working team.

    Compensation:
    Compensation is hourly and based on experience. Benefits include health insurance coverage, PTO, affiliate discount programs, beer, and a monthly stipend in the Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Taproom.
