    JOB TITLE: Lead Brewer
    LOCATION: Milldale, CT
    REPORTS TO: Head Brewer
    POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Salary Employee, Benefits

    SUMMARY:
    We are a growing brewery with a 7 bbl system, large taproom, kitchen, and new events space and are focused around locally sourced ingredients and experimental brewing. We are so busy that we are having trouble maintaining enough beer to supply the taproom and are at the beginning stages of expanding our personnel and cellar and eventually, brewhouse size. This position is to start ASAP.

    We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated and low maintenance Lead Brewer who shares the same creative and experimental vision that we have and has experience or interest in distilling. As a key member of our company, the Lead Brewer will be responsible for day-to-day beer production activities as well as overseeing the daily operation of the brewery. Responsibilities include creating wort based on recipes, ordering supplies, production management, cleaning and sanitizing, and overseeing all aspects of the production of beer.

    This position is the first step in expanding our production staff now that our event space is complete. Our serving tanks feed both our taproom and the event space and the beer is also canned and kegged for a few, but growing accounts. This position will work below the Head Brewer and hand-in-hand with another brewer, an assistant brewer, and the taproom manager, daily.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    ● Brewhouse Operations: milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, whirlpooling, knockout, grain out, record keeping, brewhouse cleaning.
    ● Cellar Operations: assist and oversee fermenter CIP/sanitation, checking gravities/monitoring fermentation (incl. Glycol controls), spunding, dryhopping, crashing schedule and procedures, yeast harvesting, brite and serving tank CIP/sanitizing, recording keeping.
    ● Packaging Operations: carbonation of beer, checking co2 levels, assisting mobile canning company, overseeing cleaning and filling kegs.
    ● Knowledge and experience with long-draw draft systems.
    ● Quality Assurance Operations: helping start a small lab including: Cell counts, calculating pitch rates, plating, sampling, etc., gravity measurements, problem solving, process sampling, yeast viability measurement, taste panel.
    ● Other: Assisting Head Brewer in various tasks, assisting in barrel aging and barrel souring program, assisting in growing the brand to include a distillery and a larger brewhouse, representing the brand at events and in the taproom.
    ● Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    ● 21 years or older
    ● Professional brewing and cellaring experience

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    ● 7 bbl system: 6 - 7 bbl fermenters, 2 - 15 bbl fermenters, 10 - 7 bbl serving/brite tanks, 2 - 15 bbl serving/brite tanks.
    ● Computers and other process automation systems.
    ● Brewing raw materials.
    ● Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
    ● Pumps, hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment.

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    ● Exceptional leadership skills.
    ● Computer skills necessary to quickly learn software systems.
    ● An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards
    who will positively represent the brewery both internally and externally.
    ● A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    ● Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one
    time.
    ● Self-motivated with good time management skills.
    ● Must bring skills and techniques to the brewery that will help move the brewery forward with quality and relevant beer production.
    ● Ability to coordinate with the Head Brewer, Taproom Manager, and Owners according to the schedule.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    ● Formal brew school or college in the fermentation sciences.
    ● Multiple years as a brewer, including roles in leadership positions.
    ● Experience in techniques of barrel-aging and sour beer production.
    ● Experience in techniques with various adjunct ingredients.
    ● Distilling knowledge and experience.
    ● Outstanding communication and problem solving skills.
