    Cellarman Position – heavy part time, 30-40 hours per week. Compensation based on experience.

    Looking for a way into the exploding craft beer scene? Want to work a short drive from the beach? Wilmington’s original brewery is looking for a hard-working, motivated individual who wants to take the first step towards an exciting brewing career. We need someone energized and passionate about craft beer to keep our beers flowing, and to spread the good word of craft beer to the people. The work is HARD, but there is no better industry out there for career enjoyment and positive culture.

    The cellarman is responsible for getting our finished beer to our thirsty clientele: transferring and carbonating new batches, filling kegs and growlers, and cleaning and maintaining all of our fermenting and serving vessels, kegs, and draft systems so they’re ready to create and serve the best beer in town. You will also lead guided brewery tours, working as a craft beer evangelist on the front lines of the revolution.

    Desired traits:
    • Clean driving record is an absolute MUST, for driving the company van
    • In good shape and physically prepared to safely lift and move 75 lbs regularly and repeatedly, and to push/pull over 100 lbs.
    • Ability to walk, kneel, duck, crawl, squeeze in tight places, climb lots of stairs
    • Handyman/mechanical skills a MAJOR plus
    • Contagious enthusiasm for craft beer and knowledge of beer styles
    • Enjoy public speaking and entertaining a crowd for brewery tours
    • Brewery experience is a huge plus, or at least homebrewing experience
    • Available to work weekends
    • Enjoy reading brewing books, good communication skills
    • Strict, careful adherence to instructions and operating procedures
    • Self-initiative to multitask and prioritize objectives
    • Sense of humor
    • Nunchuck skills

    Responsibilities:
    • Keep fresh beer flowing to our thirsty patrons!
    • Manage cellar stock and barrels, transfer and carbonate new batches of beer
    • Aid in sensory evaluation of new batches for recipe revision
    • Clean and sanitize draft systems, serving tanks, and fermentation vessels
    • Operate our counter-pressure bottling system and maintain to-go beer stock
    • Clean and fill kegs
    • Create an exciting educational beer experience for our customers through engaging brewery tours and guided tastings

    Work Environment:
    • Physically prepared to work in hot and humid environment
    • Entire shifts may be spent standing or working on your feet
    • Handle dangerous chemicals carefully following safety protocols
    • Ability to work around/under many low-hanging obstacles in the cellar

    Opportunities:
    • Starting day 1, contribute your own recipes and creative ideas to the Wort Shop, our experimental small batch program. Your beer will be on draft for the public!
    • Travel and attend regional beer festivals to promote our beer
    • Learn the fundamentals of cellar & brewhouse operations & sensory evaluation
    • Participate in the recipe revision process and learn how to formulate beer recipes
    • Learn transferrable skills and get some brewery experience on your résumé
    • Stick around long enough, and we’ll teach you to brew
