    The Mike Hess Brewing (MHB) Brewer is a person of character who will work with our Production and packaging team to make Great Beer. No Exceptions.

    The Brewer is responsible for brewing according to MHB’s SOPs and for maintaining an organized and safe brewery.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

    Quality Management – Work together with production team to maintain all aspects of product quality from raw materials inspection, brew management, fermentation, final product specification, sensory evaluation, lab work and matching final product specification to product specification. Liaise with the CBO and Director of Brewing Operations in the instance where product is out of specification.
    Production Scheduling – Work with Director of Brewing Operations to ensure maintenance of the brewing/packaging schedule and optimization of the schedule to ensure that the brewery is operating at maximum efficiency and/or capacity as possible.

    Development and Maintenance of SOPs – work with Director of Brewing Operations and Production Team to document Standard Operating Procedures. Ensure that SOPs are followed by all staff.
    Training – Help train all assistant brewery team members in proper brewing and sanitation methods to ensure the highest quality control standards possible.
    Promoting the Brand - Participate in beer dinners and festivals, customer relations and marketing/promotions/charitable events.

    Interaction:
    Interacts with all team members, vendors and customers, .

    Education and Experience:
    B.S. /M.S. in Brewing Science, Fermentation Science, Food Science and Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology/Microbiology, a plus.
    1-3 years relevant experience
    Competent with Microsoft office & basic computer functions.

    Qualifications:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must be 21 years or older and able to work a flexible schedule, including possibly very early or late evening shifts.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Proven operations knowledge of all brewing process segments.
    Proven ability to prioritize, make knowledgeable, quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
    Ability to work and communicate well with staff, customers and outside parties.
    Organized and detail oriented.
    Attention to detail, analytical ability, and sense of urgency
    MS Office and basic computer skill proficiency
    Capable of speaking in front of a small group of people as an instructor.
    Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 170 pounds

    Frequently required to reach computers and other office and warehouse machinery
    Frequently required to stand for long periods of time
    Frequently required to talk, hear and use hands
    Frequently required to use fine manipulation and simple grasping in order to handle office equipment and to utilize the computer
    Frequently required to lift and transport items weighing up to 170 lbs, approx. the weight of a half barrel of beer.
    Must be able to twist/turn, reach over shoulders, bend/stoop and stand/walk on a continual basis.
