Objective

This position assists the Chefs and/or Line Cooks with any combination of duties to prepare customer orders and to maintain the kitchen work areas in clean and organized condition ensuring smooth operation of the kitchen.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepares all food items used on the cook's line or in service areas by chopping foods, making salads, putting together entrees, etc.
  • Properly stores and labels food.
  • Handles standard kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in cleaning, stocking, rotating and storing inventory.
  • Loads/unloads trucks picking up or delivering supplies and food.
  • Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas by hand or by hand truck.
  • Cleans food preparation areas, equipment, floors and tables.
  • Maintains cleanliness of kitchen and equipment according to routine schedule planned by the Manager.
  • Oversees and organizes food preparation areas, walk-in freezers, coolers and shelves.

  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.



Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of food preparation standards.
  • Knowledge of culinary terms.
  • Skilled in kitchen equipment usage and knife safety.
  • Skilled in effective communication.
  • Ability to be flexible and reliable with scheduling.
  • Ability to learn basic cooking skills, safety and sanitation skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently alone and with a team.



Physical & Mental Requirements

Must have the physical and mental strength and endurance to be able to perform duties, in at times extreme environments, as well as the ability to handle stressors of the position in operational and administrative situations. Required to frequently lift and move 10-75 pounds. Expected to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, talk, hear, taste, smell, see, and operate objects, tools, and controls.
