    Lead Brewer for Thirsty Monk Brewery / Asheville, NC

    Thirsty Monk is a growing brewery based in North Carolina with locations in Denver, CO and Portland, OR. We are a Belgium influenced brewery but have a passion for making lots of styles including sours, lagers and IPAs. We currently make the beer for our pubs at our breweries in Asheville and Denver. The Asheville brewery is a brand new 7bbl ABS brewhouse with 5 FVs and 1 BT. We also have a young sour program with several oak barrels at our Biltmore Park tap room.

    Key Responsibilities:

    -Brewing. Primarily you will need to be a brewer with hands on experience in a brewhouse and cellar from grain ordering, brewing, transferring, yeast management, tanks management (CIP, AIP, SIP etc.) fermentation management, packaging and all with an eye towards cleanliness and safety for you, your assistant and the brewery in general.

    -Packaging. Until a packaging lead is hired you will be in charge of ensuring kegging and bottling is performed accurately.

    -QA/QC. You will need to be able to perform cell counts, taste your beers through all aspects of its life from grain to weekly tap room tasting and Quality team discussions. A good understanding of off flavors and knowledge of how they are developed and how they can be avoided is a plus.

    -Quality should be at the top of your mind when performing all aspects of your duties.

    Team

    -We are a very small and spread out family and communication is key to accomplishing all that we do. Communication via face to face meetings, e-mails, phone and text are all big parts of this job. You will need to communicate directly with the Head Brewer in Denver CO as well as with staff in Asheville on a daily basis and relay all brewing data in a timely manner. Self time management is a key component to this job.

    Basic requirements

    -2 +years experience in a brewery as a brewer and cellar worker.

    -Communicate complicated subjects in English

    -Self organized and detail oriented.

    - Lift 55lbs over and over.

    -Bend, kneel, stand for long periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, carry heavy things, push heavy things.

    -Be able to stand heat, steam and cold situations.

    -Willing and able to attend/work beer festivals

    -Good with troubleshooting and fixing problems on the fly.
