Head Brewer - Job Description:
You’ll wear a lot of hats as the head brewer at New District. From managing tanks, producing wort, packaging, recipe creation through creative ideas, and microbiological analysis, to coordinating volunteers for honeysuckle picking you’ll be responsible for helping us achieve our company goals. Our goal is to be the most admired brand in Arlington first, then beyond.
In order to achieve this goal, you’ll be asked to be action oriented, and demonstrate an ability to problem solve in the moment. You’ll need to be fully engaged with your coworkers and identify opportunities for improvement. You’ll need to be well organized and communicate frequently with ownership. You’ll need to be relentless and fearless in the pursuit of perfection of our local brand. Are you ready to redefine what a brewery can achieve? Let’s get started. Here are the three pillars for the job, though they may be expanded with time.
1. Coordinate & Perform Production Events & Transition to Fulfillment
2. Execute and Maintain QC/QA procedures.
3. Be a Positive Brand Ambassador Supporting Events and Outreach as Needed
4. Maintain excellence in communication across teams.
Coordinate & Perform Production Events & Transition to Fulfillment
Direct & Execute production through the full brewing event life cycle from start to after
action evaluation
Use EKOS to document all production events through QC/QA procedures
Execute tap calendar & review all customer beer feedback and reviews
Coordinate & perform equipment maintenance, repair, and cleaning
Make recommendations, and implement changes to improve QC/QA
Provide timely feedback on brewing events & schedule
Coordinate procurement, deliveries, and receiving from grain to glass
Schedule brewing staff and recommend staffing needs
Execute and Maintain QC/QA procedures
Perform & Process all QC/QA tasking
Daily coordination across beers, tanks, timelines, and tasking
Update and Maintain QC/QA calendar
Evaluate Targets and Assess product viability
Submit Labels & Track all packages
Perform & Evaluate Yeast viability and make recommendations
Execute Clean-In-Place procedures & test cleanliness of equipment regularly
Document life cycle data per product batch
Sample & document product: smell, taste, and sight check regularly
Conduct Post action reporting if problems are found and recommend corrective
measures
Be a Positive Brand Ambassador Supporting Events and Outreach as Needed.
Work with management & marketing to support events & outreach
Coordinate brewery collaborations & special production needs
Provide Weekly Updates on upcoming event support and status
Maintain excellence in communication across teams.
Weekly summary to ownership highlighting areas of need and wins from the past week
Coordinate with Operations Team
Daily coordination across beers, tanks, timelines, and tasking.
Work with management & ownership to facilitate equipment needs and installations
Position Requirements:
2 years Brewery Experience or QC/QA Experience
Open Availability to be on-site and for light travel
Excellent biological/mechanical skills
Excellent written communication skills
Microbiological Experience preferred
BA/BS Preferred
