    Job Title: Lead Cellarperson

    LOCATION: LTS Brewing Company, Rochester, MN
    REPORTS TO: Brewmaster
    POSITION TYPE: Hourly - 32+ hours per week, as business needs

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Cellarperson is responsible for performing a variety of fundamental and support tasks befitting this brewery, including responsibility for all cellar work. Cellar tasks include but are not limited to all aspects of raw materials handling, transfer of beer, fermentation monitoring, yeast handling, clarification, finished beer monitoring, equipment CIP, keg washing, finished beer packaging, operating bottling line, barrel program monitoring and maintenance, and general sanitation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Represents LTS Brewing Co. core values and supports the LTS vision.
    • Adheres to and advances the Culture of Safety at LTS Brewing Co.
    • Develops and enhances standard operating procedures and documentation for all cellar and raw materials handling work.
    • Assists in and performs beer operations, including cellar and minor laboratory processes, filtration, vessel CIP, and other beer production tasks.
    • Assists in and performs keg and bottle filling, labeling and associated documentation.
    • Monitors and maintains small barrel aging program
    • Cleans and assists in preventative maintenance on facilities and equipment as assigned by the Head Brewer.
    • Supports fellow brewery staff in their respective responsibilities as assigned by the Brewmaster.
    • Has to be able to stand, walk, crouch, and lift regularly throughout duration of shift, including dragging, carrying, and manipulation of kegs, bottles, hoses, pumps, parts, buckets, carts, and tools.
    • Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate demands of brewery.
    • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary

    MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Leads small team of part-time cellar assistants in carrying out duties of cellar work.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    • Grain handling, brewhouse, CIP, fermentation and conditioning equipment.
    • Cleaning agents, lubricating agents, and other potentially hazardous chemicals.
    • Brewery utilities, including: electrical, air compression, steam, water, compressed gases, and glycol refrigerant.
    • Standard safety systems, including confined space air meters, fall restraint, and personal protective equipment.

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • The ability to work unsupervised while maintaining established safety and quality standards.
    • A desire to learn and demonstrate best practices, and to assist in developing a quality-oriented standard of protocol.
    • An understanding of important core safety protocols.
    • The capacity to manage multiple processes simultaneously and adapt to the irregularities of a shifting brewing schedule.
    • Fastidious workmanship and attention to detail and cleanliness.
    • Seamless dedication to maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
    • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative positive attitude.
    • Exemplary productivity and self-directedness.


    AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD POSSESS:
    • Experience in the brewing industry preferred. Homebrewing experience and brewing knowledge necessary.
    • Computer proficiency including Google G Suite (email, documents, spreadsheets) and Internet browsers, and ability to navigate the Internet.
    • Enthusiasm and passion for independent craft beer and a commitment to understanding and supporting beer quality.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb.
    • Ability to frequently talk, hear, and smell.
    • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 55 lbs.
    • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    • The work environment is generally that of a brewing, cleaning, and brewhouse and cold room maintenance.
    • The employee regularly works with hazardous materials and utilities.
    • The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    • The employee regularly works around high voltage, flame, hot water, steam, and CO2 sources.
    • The employee frequently works in a sanitary environment.
    • The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
