    Job Title: Production/Lab Technician

    Company Overview: Next Century Spirits (NCS) is a technology company that operates in the alcoholic beverage industry specializing in the creation and processing of distilled spirits. We work closely with customers to develop innovative products and de-bottleneck supply chain issues, allowing our customers to grow rapidly in the distilled spirits business.

    General Description: At NCS, we develop a range of distilled beverage products and blending components for our customers. We are currently seeking candidates for a Production/Lab Technician position in Durham, NC. This is a hybrid role that will include assisting with production and laboratory duties. The position will work under the supervision of the Production Manager and work closely with the Laboratory team.

    The positions primary functions are as follows:
    • To maintain exceptional standards of safety, professionalism, and innovation in line with NCS’s mission.
    • To collaborate as part of a cross-functional team and utilize feedback to innovate NCS product lines.
    • To conduct and perform duties associated with production of distilled spirits products; including but not limited to, fermentation, distillation, proofing, filtration, barreling, canning, bottling, carbonation, and performing sensory analysis.
    • To conduct and perform laboratory duties associated with standardized testing of distilled spirits, sample preparation, beverage development, and production scale up.
    • To assist in planning, prioritization, and participation in day-to-day tasks guided by management/senior personnel.
    • To organize/populate/prepare standardized data into relevant digital formats; including inventories, product specification sheets, and production/QA/QC documents.
    • To provide quality control of incoming raw materials and outgoing products.
    • To regularly report status updates to supervisor and accurately record production data.
    • Work with the other NCS team members to develop production methods and SOPs.
    • To demonstrate proficiency in NCS methods/protocols and to assist in training new/additional personnel as needed.

    Candidates must have the following:
    • Experience of working in a production or manufacturing setting.
    • Ability to operate production equipment including lifting up to 60 lbs, standing for extended times, and working in various temperature conditions.
    • Ability to be certified in forklift and pallet jack operation.
    • Ability to accurately complete and report required documentation for production.
    • Ability to provide employment eligibility documentation to work in the United States as required by federal law throughout the duration of the employment period.
    • Ability to maintain focus under minimal supervision, to maintain multiple simultaneous projects, and be responsible for open and frequent communication during periods of varying workloads.

    Ideal candidates have the following characteristics:
    ● …hold a bachelor’s degree in Fermentation Science, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Food Science, Nutrition Science, or like fields, OR
    ● …hold an associate’s degree, diploma, or certificate in the field of brewing or distilling science in combination with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in food, beverage, or materials processing.
    ● …are comfortable, flexible, and persistent while working in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.
    ● …have chemistry, biochemistry, food science and/or biology experience.
    ● …have hands-on experience with production of distilled spirits.
    ● ...have experience working under TTB regulations and guidelines.
    ● …have worked in an industrial process setting and are interested in creating and developing new products and processes.
    ● …have demonstrated an ability to apply a breadth of skills and perspectives to given problems.
    ● …have demonstrated strong communication, time management, and organization skills.
    ● …are strongly self-motivated and demonstrate a commitment to self-improvement through extracurricular and/or community activities.
