    Bow River Brewing is a privately owned and operated Craft Brewery in SE Calgary. We made our first beer last September and now boast award winning beers for production and distribution throughout Alberta. We are looking for a long term creative and enthusiastic Brewer to grow with us and brew in our our state of the art 35 hL three vessel brewery.

    The position of Brewer will be mainly responsible for all phases of the brewing process/production, recipe collaboration, quality control, sensory panel participation, brewery safety, and other tasks associated with the brewery. This position also includes cellaring and flex overlap to occasional taproom duty or beer tasting attendance.
    The Brewer works in conjunction with management and ownership to develop interesting and unique beers that consumers will enjoy. This will involve creating recipes and brewing small pilot batches. Consistent high quality core product beers are brewed to meet our growing production and distribution demand. All brewing packaging is done in-house on our own equipment.

    The Brewer may have a fair amount of interaction with customers and members of the public at beer tastings and trade shows and should be a good communicator who can assist to promote the beers being produced and the brewery itself.
    Duties and Responsibilities Include:

    Cellaring:
    • Cleaning tanks and transfer lines (CIP) (our brew system has semi automated CIP!)
    • Quality control testing and product documentation
    • Managing fermenting and ageing through to the final package
    • Cleaning and filling kegs
    • Transferring beer between tanks.
    • Preparing beer to spec (CO2, DO, ABV and sensory evaluation)
    • Housekeeping and deep cleaning

    Brewing
    • Raw materials handling, milling, yeast handling and pitching, clarification and filtering, transfers, finished beer monitoring, packaging, general sanitation and brew house organization/cleanliness.
    • Ensuring that all beer is produced to standards and specification by following recipes and procedures.
    • Operating and cleaning of canning line
    • Dutifully following best practice and safety requirements
    • Maintaining brewing, cellaring, clarification and other related documentation in an organized and thorough manner
    • Attending brewery staff meetings as required
    • Cleaning and sanitizing all equipment and work areas to maintain consistent beer quality
    • Maintaining healthy communication with all team members
    • Possessing a well-rounded knowledge of brewing and diverse beer styles
    • Have knowledge of brewing science and technology (formal brewing education an asset)
    • Have a desire to learn new techniques, processes
    • Have a mechanical aptitude and willingness to understand how things work, and how to fix them.
    • Be able to follow SOPs, analyze varying situations and determine necessary actions

    Other Job Requirements:
    • Ability to live and work in Calgary Alberta, we are not interested in becoming involved with relocation or immigration
    • Ability to work and communicate well with staff and public
    • Organized and detail oriented; accurate record-keeping skills
    • Be a self-starter and manage time efficiently
    • Be able to work on your feet for long periods of time.
    • Be able to lift 30kg on a frequent basis.
    • Possess or be able to obtain a forklift and skyjack license.
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Flexible schedule: weekdays/ weeknights/ weekends/ holidays as required
    • Maintain Alberta ProServ certificate

    Physical Requirements:
    • Lift 55 lbs. from ground to shoulder high
    • Lift 110 lbs. from ground to waist high
    • Climb stairs, ramps and ladders
    • Work in small and confined spaces
    • Work safely with chemicals with appropriate safety accommodations
    • Comfortable with use of Microsoft Office Suite

    Job Type: Full-time

    Experience:
    • Forklift: 1 year (Preferred)
    • Brewing: 2 years (Preferred)

    Education:
    • High school or equivalent (Required)
    • Formal Brewing Education/Diploma (Preferred)

    License:
    • Driver's License (Required)
    • Proserv (Required)
