Spicket River Brewery is a newly formed craft brewery in the art district of Lawrence, Massachusetts, housing a
7bbl brewery and tasting room complete with wood fired pizza oven, Spicket is the full package. Oh! Did
we mention the on-site food/ beer truck? Yeah, there is some seriously good food at this location.
The ideal candidate will not only show up hungry; but will be someone with at least entry level
commercial brewing experience, who can manage a small, production brewery. Someone who is
creative, self-motivated, and passionate! You will be expected to not only make the product, but also
manage the brewery and it’s team. This roll is perfect for someone who is currently a brewer, or asst.
brewer and would like to take on a more challenging and meaningful position. As our new Head
Brewer, you will have a lot of responsibility, but will be rewarded (and appreciated) for your drive. The
right candidate should not only be able to handle all aspects of a commercial brewery, but also have
knowledge in scheduling and overseeing production. A positive attitude and attention to detail is a
must. This position will include, but certainly not be limited to, all aspects of brewery production.
Duties and responsibilities include:
• Work closely with management to design and execute a quality product
• Recipe development
• Solid understanding of raw materials and ingredients
• Ability to work unsupervised and be self-motivated
• Work independently AS WELL AS part of a team
• Ability to work long hours, including occasional weekends
• All brewhouse operations
• Mill grain and mash in at correct temperatures
• Knowledge of proper aeration / temp during knock out based on various beer styles
• Maintain accurate documentation of all brewing steps
• Proper yeast handling skills
• Yeast harvesting and propagating
• Full cellaring knowledge
• Ability to perform proper and safe CIP procedures
• Ability to work efficiently and Safely with required chemicals
• Uphold strict brewery sanitation standards
• Ability to climb latter and preform dry hopping tasks
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to move up to 165 lbs. and repeatedly lift 60 lbs.
• Ability to comfortably squat, bend, kneel and stretch on a regular basis
• Good organizational skills
• Good cleaning / housekeeping habits
• Ability to create and execute a functional brewing schedule
• Keep accurate, and up to date inventory of raw materials
• Coordinate with farmer to schedule spent grain removal/ pick up.
• Ability to multitask
