    Narrow Gauge Brewing Company is a small craft brewery located inside a restaurant in Florissant, MO (St. Louis Area). The brewery currently operates on a 6BBL electric brewhouse, typically brewing double turns 2-4 times per week and packaging 1-2 times each week. We are looking to fill a Brewer position.

    The Brewer’s main focus will be participation in daily operations including cellar work, packaging, and brewing. She/he will work closely with the Head Brewer/Brewery Operations Manager on scheduling, inventory management, quality management, and new product development.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
    • Production
    • Lead/assist with weekly packaging
    • Quality management
    • Work closely with the lab to maintain high standards in QA/QC
    • Adherence to production methods including adherence to SOP’s
    • Help develop and improve production methods / SOP’s
    • Equipment maintenance support.
    • Adhere to and enforce brewery safety standards
    • Maintain excellent communications with other brewery team members and restaurant staff to ensure smooth and effective operations.
    • Manage raw material inventories.
    • Maintain daily production records using brewery management software (Ekos).
    • Work with management and production team to create and improve processes that encourage safety, quality, and efficiency.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • 2+ years of head brewer experience or 5 years of professional brewing experience.
    • Experience and understanding of preventive maintenance, ordering and inventory management, record keeping and data analysis.
    • Experience and understanding of the brewing process, sanitation, yeast health, and recipe development
    • Experience with brewery quality assurance and quality control plans.
    • Experience in the theories and production of sour beer styles.
    • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical breakdowns on the fly.

    EXPERIENCE PREFFERENCES:
    • Experience managing 2 or more employees in a brewery setting.
    • Training or education in a technical field.
    • Experience using Ekos.

    TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS:
    • Computer proficiency including MS Office Suite and Google Drive.

    COMPETENCIES:
    • Attention to detail and forward thinker.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Proven ability to work with others.
    • Mechanical aptitude.
    • Strong ability to teach/mentor and motivate all types of individuals.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be able to lift 65 pounds and move 175 pounds regularly.
    • Must be able to carry 55 pounds up and down stairs unassisted.
    • Must have the ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, work from heights, stoop, kneel and crouch.
    • The ability to work near moving parts and machinery.
    • The ability to work in confined spaces, loud, wet, cold, hot, indoor and outdoor environments frequently.
    • Occasional travel required.

    Qualified applicants should possess knowledge and passion of the craft beer business, experience in a similar role at a brewery, willingness to collaborate and work with other team members, punctual, good work ethic and ability to understand the big picture while keeping a close eye on the details, strong written and verbal communication skills, capability to multi-task, and a priority for organization.

    Important note, our production space is in a basement. This is a labor-intensive job requiring all staff to carry heavy items up and down stairs daily.
