Serda Brewing is a two year old 30bbl brewery located in the heart of downtown Mobile, AL. We are a 15,000 s.f. brewery with a 1000 s.f taproom with 20 taps directly on the Mardi Gras route. We are under new management and are looking to completely re-brand and launch a new line of core beers along with seasonals and taproom releases. We have an immediate opening for a head brewer that is creative and talented and can maintain quality control and consistency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage the brewing process, must be able to run a full brew day.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the brewery; i.e., kegging, cleaning, canning
• Canning on a Wild Goose 4-head canning line or similar
• Develop new recipes to meet market demands and trends
• Record gravities, temperatures, and pH daily and keep impeccable barrel records
• Manage, monitor and maintain inventory
• Ability to work well with other employees, breweries, public and media.
• Select and order raw materials to be used throughout the brewing process; i.e., grain, hops, yeast
• Manage hop contracts
• Manage maintenance schedule
• Maintain safety and health standards
• Work with marketing and sales team to promote beer
• Meet with trade associations; i.e., Alabama Brewers Guild, Craft Brewers Association
• Availability to assist in taproom and be a positive representative of the brewery at events
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Flexible to work a rotating schedule as business needs arise (including nights, weekends and occasional travel)
• Position requires standing for long periods of time (up to 12 hours), bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting products and materials weighing up to 165 pounds
• Routine pushing, pulling, reaching, upper body and arm rotation, arm extension, and climbing ladders
• Very high noise levels in/around brewing area
• Exposure to various temperature changes
• Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (ear plugs, gloves, boots, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 5 years experience in the craft brewing industry
• Degree in Brewing Science or Technology or related field preferred, but not required
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Highly organized with keen attention to detail
• Ability to manage and supervise staff
• Comfortable with computers and technology
• Willingness to continue education and help drive innovation
• Forklift certified
