    Job Description
    About us:

    Gate City Brewing Company is located in the heart of historic Roswell, GA just north of Atlanta. Gate City has established itself as one of the up and coming breweries in Atlanta’s growing craft beer scene. Gate City gained acclaim for its killer taproom boasting 20 taps and a great vibe in one of Atlanta’s hottest suburbs. Currently producing 3000+ barrels per year and growing, Gate City operates a 30-bbl brew house for production and a 7-bbl brew house for internal taproom needs.

    Job Overview

    The Brewer and Cellar position is responsible for Brewhouse operations on the 30 bbl and 7 bbl systems. This position will be primarily focused on producing top quality wort for both distribution and the taproom and will also help the team on the cellar side when necessary. This position will be cross trained in all aspects of the brewery and will be able to fill in any other role of production as a utility player when needed.

    Brewhouse tasks include operation and upkeep of equipment, working closely with both our Quality Control and cellar specialist and our packaging manager to ensure that a top quality product is being produced at all times throughout the entire manufacturing process. This person should be highly detail oriented and take great pride in producing the best product possible.

    Hours will vary to align with staffing and Production needs. All shifts (day, swing, float, and night shift) could potentially be required as per the regular rotations by Cellars and Brewers. However, at this time, the Brewer position will more regularly operate 4 days a week for roughly 10 hours a day or longer as required by the needs of the product.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Brewing Duties:

    Complete brewing process in a safe and efficient manner. This includes, but is not limited to, milling, mashing, and lautering, wort boiling, cooling and transferring to fermenters.
    Maintaining the use of standard operating procedures unless otherwise instructed.
    Monitor, pitch and evaluate yeast as needed.
    Work with all production employees to ensure our product meets our standards of the highest quality.
    Ensure supply of raw materials and other inventory items such as: Bulk Malts, Specialty malts, Hops, Brewing Salts and kettle additives, Safety Equipment and Chemicals
    Cellar Duties:

    Operate cellar equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
    Follow SOP’s to meet quality specifications and ensure proper kegging line operations.
    Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and on time.
    Maintain yeast disposal, and grain area cleanup schedule.
    Perform all tasks in an efficient, safe and productive manner.
    Maintain inventory as needed and report low levels of inventory to your supervisor when necessary.
    Monitor gravities, temperatures, DO, and carbonations daily.
    Be responsible for ensuring that security procedures are adhered to throughout the building.
    Communicate regularly and efficiently with Gate City staff.
    Arrive to each shift on time with a positive attitude.
    Assist other departments when necessary, including but not limited to Cellar, Packaging, Maintenance, and QA/QC/Lab.

    Experience

    Degree in brewing science or fermentation preferred
    2+ years as a shift or head brewer on a 7bbl brewhouse or larger
    5+ years commercial brewing experience
