    BURNING BUSH BREWERY OVERVIEW: Burning Bush Brewery is a 7 BBL start up brewpub in North Center neighborhood in Chicago, IL. Our mission statement - Burning Bush Brewery exists to offer high-quality craft beer, provide incredible hospitality, and serve the greater community. We will live out our mission by: donating a portion of our proceeds to non-profits, organizing community service activities and partnering with non-profits to host fundraisers, special events and more. In addition to great craft beer we will also serve wine on tap, cider, non-alcoholic beverages and a selection of snack food. Patrons will be welcome to bring or order in food and we will have food trucks for patrons.

    POSITION SUMMARY: Take orders, serve alcoholic, non-alcoholic beverages and food to guests courteously, enthusiastically, and efficiently according to established service standards and specifications. Maintain stock/supplies and cleanliness of serving areas and equipment. Adhere to safety practices and procedures.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Preparation
    - Check quality and quantity of bar supplies and request all necessary supplies from manager.
    - Transport supplies from storeroom to bar area and stock ice in bar.
    - Stock glassware and paper supplies.
    - Ensure menus are updated and available.
    - Wipe down any glasses/bottles on display counter.
    - Obtain assigned bank and ensure accuracy of contracted monies. Keep bank secure at all times.
    - Inspect cleanliness and condition of bar and service areas; rectify any deficiencies.
    - Prepare any snack prep, garnishes or mixes.
    - Assist with daily/weekly/monthly inventories.
    - Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.
    - Legibly document maintenance needs on work orders and submit to Manager.
    - Report any damages, maintenance problems or safety hazards to the supervisor.

    Beverage Service
    - Greet guests and take their orders.
    - Replenish supplies in bar area throughout shift, including ice, snacks etc…
    - Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of bar top, tables, and service areas.
    - Remove soiled wares from bar top and tables to dishwashing area
    - Clean bar top as guests depart.
    - Clean all dishes - glassware/plates/utensils in dishwasher/sink.
    - Properly input orders into POS system.
    - Legibly document orders using established system when POS is down and verify receipt.
    - Close all guest checks in the POS system immediately upon payment.
    - Clearly communicate last call at designated closing time to guests and any servers.
    - Handle all wares carefully to prevent breakage and loss.
    - Ensure maximum usage of all supplies to attain budgeted beverage cost and to prevent waste.
    - Coordinate and assist other bar tenders to ensure smooth and efficient service to guests.

    Customer Service:
    - Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly and acknowledge guests even when busy.
    - Maintain positive guest relations with a friendly and welcoming attitude.
    - Handle guest complaints following company procedures ensuring guest satisfaction and inform manager
    - Answer telephone within two rings, using correct greeting and telephone etiquette.
    - Present guest checks and process payments. Adhere to all cash handling and credit policies/procedures.
    - Extend courteous departures when guests leave.

    Closing:
    - Properly store all reusable goods.
    - Remove all items from bar top and tables; place clean items in designated areas; wipe clean all surfaces of bar top and tables.
    - Wipe down all bottles and surfaces.
    - Clean all bar equipment and tools and scrub sink, empty and drain ice bin.
    - Remove trash and complete all breakdown duties.
    - Complete all closing reports in the P.O.S. System.
    - Legibly document designated items on the spill sheet.
    - Fill out closing paperwork and present to manager at closing.

    Required Knowledge Base:
    - Characteristics and description of Burning Bush craft beer and all other beverages/snacks we offer.
    - Designated glassware and garnishes for each drink.
    - Table numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, menus, prices and dress code
    - Food truck schedule and description of their offerings.
    - Correct maintenance and use of equipment, using only as intended.
    - Maintain complete knowledge of, and strictly abide by, state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk drivers.
    - Maintain complete knowledge of, and comply with, all company policies and service procedures.
    - Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation, and safety regulations required by OSHA and Illinois.
    - Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA and Illinois regulations.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The physical requirements listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and key responsibilities of this position. Work conditions in certain areas of the bar/brewery can be hot, cold, wet, slippery and/or noisy. Frequent walking, including climbing up and down stairs are required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed, sometimes for extended periods, and to occasionally lift and carry heavy items up to 40+ pounds (may be aided).

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
    Ability to:
    - Understand guests’ service needs.
    - Focus on Details: Be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when preparing drinks and providing service to guests within any given period of time.
    - Exercise good judgment in determining potentially intoxicated and/or under aged guests.
    - Maintain good coordination while preparing and serving orders quickly.
    - Perform job functions with minimal supervision.
    - Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
    - Provide legible written communication.
    - Compute basic mathematical calculations and cash handling experience.
    - Maintain a positive, friendly and hospitable attitude toward guests and other staff.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    - Minimum 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
    - Two years’ experience as a Bartender or Bar Back.
    - Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co- workers.
    - Food Handlers Certification
    - Team player – need to be willing to lend a helping hand to any teammate at any time.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    - High school graduate, some college
    - Certification in alcohol awareness program.
    - Certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service.
    - Certification in C.P.R.
    - Knowledge of Computerized P.O.S. Systems.
    - Customer service training.
    - Ability to communicate in a second language.
