    BURNING BUSH BREWERY OVERVIEW: Burning Bush Brewery is a 7 BBL start up brewpub in North Center neighborhood in Chicago, IL. Our mission statement - Burning Bush Brewery exists to offer high-quality craft beer, provide incredible hospitality, and serve the greater community. We will live out our mission by: donating a portion of our proceeds to non-profits, organizing community service activities and partnering with non-profits to host fundraisers, special events and more. In addition to great craft beer we will also serve wine on tap, cider, non-alcoholic beverages and a selection of snack food. Patrons will be welcome to bring in or order food and we will have food trucks for patrons.

    POSITION SUMMARY: Direct personnel on their service assignments. Take and serve beverage and food orders, collect payments, assist in the maintenance of the bar area and equipment. Enforce company's standards, policies and procedures with bar staff. Schedule staff based on business needs. Motivate bar staff and maintain a cohesive team. Continually ascertain bar staff training needs and arrange for training to take place on an ongoing basis. Ensure security and confidentiality of guest information. Provide guests with excellent experience to ensure satisfaction and help create an environment where hospitality is our top priority!

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Preparation
    - Check storage areas for proper supplies, organization and cleanliness. Rectify any cleanliness/organization deficiencies.
    - Check stocks of drinks and food and replace/order shortages noted. Ensure all beverage/food orders are received, properly stored and kept secured.
    - Ensure the inspection and planning of materials, supplies and equipment for readiness of service and rectify deficiencies.
    - Check the pick-up and side stations, ensuring agreement to standards of cleanliness, supply of stock and organization.
    - Monitor and maintain cleanliness and working condition of bar equipment, supplies and work areas.

    Beverage/Food Service:
    - Ensure the inspection of table set-ups; check for cleanliness, neatness and agreement to company standards; rectify deficiencies.
    - Review any events or pre-assigned designated tables and follow up on all special requests.
    - Ensure that specified number of menus are available and in good condition.
    - Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day. Maintain a culture of incredible hospitality and positive guest relations at all times.
    - Monitor and handle guest complaints by following company procedures and ensuring guest satisfaction.
    - Monitor guest reactions and confer frequently with service staff to ensure guest satisfaction.
    - Ensure that all orders are checked and served within designated timeliness.
    - Monitor and ensure that all tables are cleared and reset according to company procedures.
    - Expedite bar area operations as business demands.
    - Prioritize and organize service requirements at the bar and all tables
    - Sell Burning Bush: Beer, merchandise, wines, cider, non-alcoholic beverages and food.
    - Direct timing and performance of bartenders and servers in providing quality service to guests.

    Direction
    - Ensure that staff are well versed in Burning Bush Beer, wine/cider descriptions and any specials.
    - Conduct regular meetings with staff and review all information pertinent to the day's business.
    - Ensure that staff report to work as scheduled. Document any late or absent employees.
    - Ensure coordination of breaks for staff.
    - Inspect grooming and attire of staff; rectify any deficiencies.
    - Constantly monitor staff performance in all phases of service and job functions, ensuring that all procedures are carried out to company standards; rectify any personnel deficiencies.
    - Provide feedback to staff on their performance, ensuring that all procedures are carried out to company standards. Handle disciplinary problems and counsel employees according to company standards.
    - Write all annual reviews for bar staff. Forward to general manager for approval.
    - Foster a cooperative working climate, maximize productivity and employee morale.
    - Ensure assignment of work and side duties to staff in accordance with BBB procedures.
    - Inspect the environment ensuring compliance with standards of cleanliness and order and rectify deficiencies.
    - Anticipate heavy business times and organize procedures to handle extended waiting lines.
    - Ensure any event reservations/cancellations are taken, recorded and confirmed in accordance with company standards.
    - Ensure all closing duties for staff are completed before staff sign out.
    - Attend designated meetings, and any beer/wine and food tastings.
    - Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation, and safety regulations as required by the City of Chicago.
    - Attend and participate in all Burning Bush Manager’s meetings as scheduled.

    Administration
    - Social Media:
    o Oversee social media accounts: Frequently update social media accounts on a weekly basis.
    o Coordinate approach to posts with general manager to fit the brand, marketing plan and mission of Burning Bush Brewery.
    - Food Trucks:
    o Identify possible vendors, contact them and schedule dates/times.
    o Advertise Food truck availability on social media.
    - Community Service Activities
    o Help schedule/coordinate activities and advertise events.
    - Access all functions of the P.O.S. system in accordance to specifications. Restock journal tape and change ribbons as needed.
    - Update P.O.S. menu changes. Input and access information into P.O.S. system.
    - Assist bartenders/servers with expediting problem payments. Ensure all cashiering procedures are processed in compliance with accounting standards.
    - Run system-closing reports and ensure that all servers' checks are closed before they sign out.
    - Document pertinent information in department logbook.
    - Complete all paperwork and closing duties in accordance with company standards.
    - Review status of assignments and any follow-up action with on-coming supervisor.
    - Complete departmental filing.
    - Other tasks as assigned

    Required Knowledge Base
    - Maintain complete knowledge and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and persons under the influence and/or impaired drivers.
    - Characteristics and description of Burning Bush craft beer and all other beverages/snacks we offer.
    - Designated glassware and garnishes for drinks.
    - All menu items, preparation method, ingredients, portion sizes, garnishes, presentation and prices.
    - Happy hour, any specials, and any beverages that are no longer available.
    - Bar layout, table/seat/station numbers, proper table set-ups, room capacity, hours of operation, price range and dress code.
    - P.O.S. and manual system procedures.
    - Scheduled in-house banquets/events, locations and times.
    - Correct maintenance and use of equipment.
    - All policies/service procedures.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and key responsibilities of this position. Work conditions in certain areas of the bar/brewery can be hot, cold, wet, slippery and/or noisy. Frequent walking, including climbing up and down stairs are required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed, sometimes for extended periods, and to occasionally lift and carry heavy items up to 40 plus pounds (may be aided).

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
    Ability to:
    - Effective verbal and written communication skills. Should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
    - Basic computer skills (operating a P.O.S., social media, Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher)
    - Remain calm under pressure, making sound and logical decisions quickly.
    - Be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems, exercising good judgment.
    - Focus attention on details.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    - High school graduate.
    - Minimum 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
    - Five years’ experience as a bar tender/server and/or previous manager experience.
    - Certification in alcohol awareness program.
    - Food handling certificate.
    - Knowledge of computerized P.O.S. systems.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    - Previous experience working with craft beer.
    - Ability to communicate in a second language.
    - Certification of previous training in beer, wine, liquor and food service.
    - Certification in CPR
    - Previous guest relations training.
