    Elk Horn Brewery and Ciderhouse opened in 2014, and has won several beer and cider awards around the country. We are looking for a talented, and experienced brewer to oversee all production needs. This position is a jack of all trades, and you will be expected to brew beers and ciders to fill our 24 tap southern food restaurant. This position comes with a lot of freedom, and a unique opportunity to stamp your name on the Oregon brew scene.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Wort production on a 14bbl 2-vessel brewhouse, Milling, and handling of raw materials, yeast handling and management, ordering ingredients, cellaring duties including fermentation management, CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment. Recording all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging. Following SOP (standard operating procedure) in each phase of fermentation, clarification, carbonation and packaging. Maintaining sanitary practices in all aspects of beer processing. Executing preventative maintenance on all brewhouse and cellar equipment. Transfer of beer to and from other tanks, kegs, liquor barrels, and wine barrels. Keg cleaning and filling with other quality assurance activities.

    REQUIREMENTS

    A strong passion for brewing. Strong understanding of brewing aspects, including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitation. Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills. Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work any shift the beer and cider require, weekends, and overtime. Computer literate with some understanding of Microsoft Office/ spreadsheet programs. Ability to multi-task. Ability to work as part of a growing and passionate company.

    EXPERIENCE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING IS PREFERABLE:

    Applicable degree in brewing related sciences, or a degree/certificate from a recognized brewing program.

    Two year experience in a commercial production brewery or brew pub.

    Experience with recipe development.

    An understanding of quality assurance (QA) methods and techniques, and a sound knowledge of chemistry and biology.

    Prior cidermaking, barrel aging, blending, and packaging experience.



    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, climbing ladders, pulling hoses, etc. Willing to work in wet, hot and cold conditions. Willing to work in consistently loud environments. Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous chemicals. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move full kegs.
