  • Refurbishing 1996 NSI system

Newlands 1996 Brewhouse plus manifold. I know NSI is out of business. Searching for suppliers
for all the SMS gasket and HXG replacement items.
    Thanks for any information.

You will need to verify its SMS and not DIN, but try the following

    SMS - JMESales.com
    DIN - BreweryGaskets.com

As far as the HX, you’ll need to look for a data plate or at minimum a brand name. It would have probably been contracted from Alfa Laval or Thermaline. You are pressing luck to find new HX gaskets without data plate info. You may need to send the old ones in to get new ones made.

      Old Newlands support

If you need support for an old Newlands system talk to Brad or Balbir at SIDMAC Engineering (AKA KONIG Brewing Systems). They ran Newlands back then and built those older systems, so they will be able to hep you if anyone can.

König Brewing Systems creates the best possible brewery for our customers. From initial contact to post-commissioning, we will work together to ensure that you get the best brewery possible.

        Archon Industries

Whether DIN or SMS gaskets & fittings, you can find either here. Plus lots of other goodies that you might need. Maybe even butterfly valve seals (which may be shot). BTW, your HX gaskets may be just fine. Open plates without disassembling and inspect before you shell out tons of cash for new ones you don't need. If they look good and don't stick to the plates, then gently clean & tighten slowly, deliberately, carefully, and evenly to maximum stack thickness and see whether you have any leaks at pressure. I like to use 1.5 x working pressure. Usually about 2 bar with smaller breweries.

What make is the heat exchanger

There are many different makes of heat exchangers and the gaskets are different. What make came with your system? There should be a tag on the fixed endplate.

To piggy back on Philips comments, you can also run water in both directions of different dye colors to check for leaks or holes (mixing). Do it at flow and pressure. Check the "pack" depth of the plates after pressure testing and adjust/repeat if needed. You will probably want a torque wrench for the packing and use a torque pattern to tighten evenly. Its also generally a good idea to mark the edges of your plates with a paint pen or Sharpie in a diagonal pattern to ensure you place the plates back in the same orientation.
