    ASSISTANT BREWER/CELLARPERSON

    ABOUT US:
    Tilted Barn Brewery is a farm brewery based in Exeter, RI and we are looking for an Assistant Brewer/Cellarperson. We opened in 2014 and brew on our 7 barrel brewhouse in our historic barn on the farm. In late summer 2020 we are expanding to a new post & beam style barn, currently under construction, and a 30 barrel QTS brewhouse. We brew a variety of beers with a focus on hop-forward ales and are looking to expand our lager, and wild/mixed fermentation programs.

    SUMMARY:
    The Assistant Brewer/Cellarperson will work alongside the Head Brewer/Owner and will also be part of the packaging and cellar team. Previous experience working with barrels, foeders, and mixed fermentation beers is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, will be highly motivated with strong attention to detail, and willing to learn and adapt to our unique conditions of brewing on a farm and in a barn. We are a family run brewery with a small yet extremely talented and hard-working crew. Strong character and work ethic are important characteristics for this position.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    Duties for the Assistant Brewer/Cellarperson will include but not be limited to:
    • Assisting the Head Brewer on brewdays
    • All aspects of packaging beer (carbonating, canning, kegging, bottling)
    • Dry hop/adjunct additions on a set schedule
    • CIP of brewhouse, fermenters, canning line, etc.
    • Maintenance of foeders and barrels
    • Yeast handling/harvesting
    • Keg cleaning and inventory
    • Inventory and management of hops, malt, yeast, etc.
    • Assisting with preparing taproom for weekly sales (stocking kegs, moving cans, etc.)
    • Cleaning and maintenance of facility and equipment
    SCHEDULE:
    These duties will require approximately 30-35 work hours per week. The ideal candidate would also be available to assist with working in the taproom on Friday afternoons and as needed on Saturdays; and to assist as needed with farm work, such as stringing and training hops; weed management in hops, fruit trees/shrubs, and Christmas trees; and tractor work. These additional duties would result in a full-time position.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required qualifications for this position include:
    • Strong work ethic and willingness to assist in all aspects of our operation
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • Self-motivated
    • Passion and knowledge for beer and the craft brewing industry
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 55 pounds
    • Ability to work early and long hours, adhere to a non-traditional schedule when needed, and be on your feet for extended periods of time
    • Willingness and ability to learn, and ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transporation
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 21+ years of age

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    The following qualifications are strongly preferred and preference will be given to those who meet them:
    • 2+ years experience in a production capacity in the brewing industry
    • Experience working with mixed fermentation beer a strong plus
    • Formal brewing education
    • Yeast management and propagation experience
    • TIPS training certified
