  • Yeast propogation system

    Hi all,
So we're using our pilot batch tanks for double duty as yeast prop vessels and we're kicking around making the process a little more automated. The tanks are 3 BBL and the plan is to have a small pump recirculating the prop through a stone, with a timer driven solenoid to add air or oxygen. Even though we use oxygen during our knockouts, which are closely monitored by the brewers, I'm a little hesitant to use oxygen with a more automated and hands-off system. I'm worried about fire(s) and over oxygenation, since it'll be running without people paying too much attention to it. Does anyone have experience with O2 and automated systems and the possible risks encountered with it?

Additionally, anyone out there that uses compressed air for knockouts, what kind of air filters are you using prior to aerating the wort?

    Cheers,
    Scott
