    54°40' is looking to add a core member to our team. If you’re interested in putting your boots on in a collaborative, fast paced, and growing brewery then please read on.

    Located in Washougal, WA at the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge, 54°40' Brewing has been making award winning beer since 2015. Energy and passion are key to who we are. We are looking for someone that shares our devotion and eagerness to work to continue to grow our brand.

    We welcome folks that can bring great attention to detail for all aspects of the brewing process, from the brew deck to loading trucks. Our next lead brewer will be able to competently and energetically assist with every aspect of the brewery.

    Lead Brewer Expectations:
    Excellent managerial and inner-personal skills
    Is honest and has integrity
    • Excellent attendance & timeliness.
    • Is reasonable and responsible.
    • Shows respect for self & others.
    • Clean driving record and an insurable driver.
    • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. and perform strenuous work all day. Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling is often required.
    • Mechanical aptitude. Respect equipment & tools.
    • Familiarity with material handling equipment (pallet jack, forklift, hand truck).
    • Understanding and commitment to a safe, clean, and professional brewery.
    • Can perform tasks with little or no supervision.
    • Can think and make sound and reasonable decisions. Critical thinking and independent problem solving is key to success in this position.
    • Willingness to accomplish any and all work that must be done on any given day.
    • Mental flexibility.
    • Willingness to take direction.

    Brewing Specific Skills:
    • Open Mind.
    • Ability to work/take direction as part of a team.
    • Love of cleaning & sanitation!
    • Fermentation management and daily tracking
    • Knowledge of brewhouse operations
    • Keg washing
    • Yeast management
    • Keg racking
    • Fining practices
    • Fermenter/brite tank CIP/sanitation
    • Materials handling (cleaned kegs, palletized beer, bagged malt, etc.)
    • Raw materials analysis
    • Minor laboratory and QA/QC skills
    • Experience with cleaning chemicals & SDS sheets
    • Understanding of material utilization.
    • Love of the art & science of Brewing.
    • Knowledge of sensory analysis
    • Canning line setup, operation, cleaning

    Other skills needed:
    • Shows good attitude and wants to work
    • Can follow directions well/takes notes if necessary.
    • Can keep an eye out for potential problems or maintenance issues and brings them to the attention of management and maintenance
    • Willingness to learn & learns quickly
    • Willingly accepts non-standard assignments
    • Can represent the company and brand well when in public and at events
    • Listens to and observes supervisors without being distracted from task at hand
    • Asks pertinent questions
    • Learns from mistakes
    • Shows improving skills by regularly accomplishing more complex tasks and increasing speed and efficiency
    • Able to multi-task
    • Shows a sense of urgency and hustles
    • Ability to share knowledge and mentor other brewery staff
