Position: Innovation Brewer
Compensation: This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits and 401K.
The Innovation Brewer will be a leadership role tasked with new recipe development and oversight of our barrel-aging program. They will also oversee wort production, cellar work, manage one shift brewer, as well as assist Production Manager and Quality Assurance Manager with scheduling and continued SOP improvement.
Position Overview:
Adhere to all SOB safety standards and SOP
Lead team effort daily to maintain a clean and organized workspace
Work 8-12 hour shifts with duties including, but not limited to the following:
Oversight of all wort production and verification that all beers are brewed to spec
Mill / mash grain and empty/clean Mash Tun
Boil wort, add hops, and transfer hot liquid between tanks
CIP brewhouse tanks and fermenters
Troubleshoot process challenges
Demonstrate effective open and closing procedures to standard
Assist Production Manager in effort to streamline day-to-day operations
Write and execute recipes as needed by Production Manager and COO
Assist Production Manager in sourcing of raw materials and oak barrels as needed
Barrel racking, proper storage, development tracking, and bottle conditioning
Assist Production Manager to identify and improve SOP when applicable
Assist with expansion project research and proposal development
Consistently communicate quality data to assist sales, marketing, and finance decisions
Perform daily, weekly, monthly maintenance on brewhouse and cellar equipment
Available for occasional nights and weekends outside of normal business hours
Act as local brewing community liaison and to help develop collaboration projects
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree
Preferably in Fermentation Science, Engineering, general science or related field
Additional brewing education a plus
Experience:
Minimum 2 years commercial brewing experience
Experience with wild yeast fermentation and safe handling a plus
Required skills:
Ability to read and follow written instructions
Safe chemical handling knowledge
Adaptable and solution-driven
Writing and math skills necessary to accurately complete dilution calculations, volume, flow, weight, length, pressure, and other unit conversions
Mechanical aptitude - knowledge of machinery and systems
Forklift certified a plus
Ability to work independently, and with others
Physical requirements:
Lift 55 lbs. from ground to shoulder height
Move 110 lbs. from ground to waist height
Move 165 lbs. across floor
Climb stairs, ramps and ladders
Work in small and/or confined spaces
Work safely with chemicals and utilize proper PPE
