Short Story Brewing is an established, family-run craft brewery in Rivesville, just outside of Morgantown, West Virginia. Our story began in May of 2017. We currently run our brewery operations and brewpub in Rivesville, and we recently added a second taproom in McHenry, Maryland. We also self-distribute to select accounts throughout the great state of West Virginia. We operate a 10 bbl direct-fire gas system with three 10 bbl fermenters, a 20 bbl fermenter, a brite tank, and a lagering tank. Quality and consistency are our guiding principles, and we constantly strive to bring new, diverse and exciting beers to our customers. We have a team atmosphere with a CAN-DO attitude. We are looking for an experienced Head Brewer to join our team!
Job Description
The Head Brewer is a full-time position responsible for all aspects of brewery operations from wort production to packaging, as well as contributing to developing new beers and helping to grow production. The Head Brewer reports to the owners.
Core Responsibilities
Make great beer!
Ability to execute current recipes and develop new recipes
Wort production
Manage fermentation/cellaring
Clean and fill kegs
Yeast management
Troubleshoot, maintain, repair and CIP all brewery equipment
Represent the brewery at select events
Ensure a clean and sanitary work environment
Maintain detailed and accurate records
Follow quality control processes
Experience + Qualifications
Must love craft beer!
3+ years brewing experience on similar sized system
Understanding and experience in all aspects of brewery operations
Formal brewing education preferred
Knowledge of laboratory operations preferred
Ability to lift 60 pounds and move 175 pounds on a regular basis
Self-starter with strong work ethic and exceptional organization skills
Willingness to be part of a growing team and support other duties as needed
Detail oriented with excellent communication skills
