Wanted: Zymurgist - Craft Beer, Cider & Kombucha. Lowville, NY
Our small brewery in Lowville, NY will be looking for a full time head brewer this spring/summer 2020. The brewery is a 5bbl Portland Kettle Works brewhouse with 8 - 10bbl FV's, and 3 - 10bbl BT's. We also have a 310gallon tank we do Kombucha in as well. We currently have a DO meter, volumetric meter, pH meter as well as the other obvious needed equipment. In the process of trying to build out a lab. Quality and consistency is very important to us, as well as the employees having th right tools, and knowledge to do their jobs efficiently and effectively. Team work is a high priority at Skewed, as well as our employees happiness as you will see from our benefits package. We currently do around 500bbls a year, and as production increases it's time to hire. The duties include almost everything in the brewery, but because we are so small it's manageable for 1-2 people. As production increases, we will hire more people as needed.
Lowville is a quiet town in upstate NY known for lots of outdoor activities like hunting, ATV's and snowmobiling. It's a friendly town, with a low cost of living and lots of snow and fresh air.
Head Brewer duties will include:
-Maintain core beer production, as well as doing seasonal beers.
-keeping inventory and costs in line
-ordering ingredients, and maintaining hop contracts
-yeast maintenance
-filling kegs for distribution orders, and handling the shipping and receiving
-managing an assistant that will clean kegs, mill grain, wash tanks, tidy up, etc.
-maintaining brew logs, and tax info.
-keeping organized
-good communication skills
The head brewer must also be self motivated, as lots of time you are working by yourself. As well as being able to problem solve issues such as broken equipment, or normal every day brewery problems that come up (ie:broken pump, leaking pump, etc).
Salary will be depended on qualifications, and we are open to all qualifications as long as there is a passion and willing to learn.
