Maker’s Craft Brewery is one of the newest brewery's in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a team member with strong people skills who wants to be a part of, and grow with, a new and ambitious establishment. As a member of the Maker’s Craft family you will be part of a team with a passion for craft beer and customer experiences. Maker’s Craft Brewery is located at 735 E 23rd St., Norfolk, VA.
Assistant Brewer/Cellar Worker
This is an entry level position but there is potential to take on more responsibilities. Reports directly to the Brew Master. The right person will be outgoing and have excellent mechanical aptitude, be self-driven to learn, and have a strong work ethic. The assistant brewer will take part in all aspects of the brewing process. You will interact with brew house staff, handle tours, and assist with events on and off site. This is a great hands-on, opportunity for a motivated individual to learn all aspects of the brewing process. We’re a tight-knit team, so everyone does a bit of everything.
Compensation: $11.50 to $15.00 per hour (DOE) full time 30-40 hours
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• All functions related to cellar-work, including (but not limited to), washing/sanitizing casks and kegs, packaging of beer, tank transfers, and gravity readings.
• Yeast management
• Cleaning, organizing, and more cleaning
• Following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment at all times
• Quality assurance, including detailed record keeping
• Representing the brewery at festivals and promotional events
• Assisting on brew day
• Works as Brewery Tasting Staff as needed
• Basic light mechanical repairs to brewing equipment when necessary
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Work effectively with head brewer to meet production needs
• Previous brewing experience or training desirable, but not necessary
• Hard working, self motivated, positive attitude
• Must possess basic computer and good math skills
• Work in a team environment and independently with minimal direct supervision
• Maintain professionalism in a high-stress environment
• Ability to work safely with chemicals, pumps, hot water and high pressure
• Friendly, outgoing, personable
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
• Must work weekends, with a flexible schedule
• Must be willing to work 10 hour days up to 40 hours
• Must be able to stand, walk, lift and bend for up to 8 hours a day
• Knowledge of bottling lines (Meheen) a plus but not required
• Most have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• 1 + years brewery/restaurant experience
• MUST have completed and passed the RSVP certification before an official offer of employment is made
• Good oral and written communication skills
