AERONAUT seeks a director of brewing operations with leadership experience who will work with our brewers, brewmaster, and co-founders on a broad range of tasks including managing logistics, scheduling our brew team & production, brewing, and participating in recipe design & evaluation as we increase production, intensify our prototyping initiative and enhance our quality controls.
ABOUT AERONAUT
Aeronaut is a brewery in Somerville, MA. We’re three years old, growing fast, and constantly imagining new recipes while producing full-tilt on an 8.5 BBL production brewhouse. In addition to brewing for in-house consumption and limited distribution, we produce packaged beer with a mobile canner and are considering next steps for future expansion. We pride ourselves on brewing recipes which fearlessly explore new frontiers in flavor & technique. We are proud of to have built an extraordinary laboratory dedicated to microbiology-focused R&D and advanced quality assurance.
AERONAUT won the 2016 GABF Gold Medal for the Style American / International Pilsener. We have also been written up in a number of publications including Beer Advocate, the Boston Globe, the New York Times, and the Boston Magazine. We also publish a fairly regular blog primarily focused on updates and articles coming out of AERONAUT LABS at http://aeronautbrewing.wordpress.com.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
The brewery director will be expected to:
Manage the brewery production schedule
Manage inventory of beer and ingredients
Manage all packaging programs, including packaged beer release schedule
Manage quality control checklists for all beer
Participate in commissioning and maintenance of equipment
Participate in recipe design
Act as interdepartmental brewery contact for all beer-related matters
Advise on volume growth & expansion roadmap
In addition to the above, the brewery director will be a team leader, fulfilling a vital role to ensure that team needs are met, and that staff workload is well balanced, with each member engaged in work & growth which is fulfilling and rewarding.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Any applicant for this position must have brewing experience in a production brewery.
Ideally, the brewery director would also have the following experience:
-- Three years experience in a production brewery environment with two years in recipe design and well developed skills in sensory evaluation.
-- One years management experience, having successfully led a team of people in a brewery environment or otherwise and have experience creating schedules and organizational documents.
-- Familiarity with canning or bottling equipment -- whether in-house, contracted elsewhere or through a mobile provider, candidate should have participated in production packaging runs of ten barrels or more.
-- Academic experience with a degree from a brewing education program preferred but not required.
COMPENSATION will depend on experience
