Job Description
This full-time position as a Head Brewer is responsible for all aspects of the brewing process including brewing, fermentation, cellaring, and finishing. Candidate should be hardworking, responsible, and self-motivated individual with a passion for craft beer and a desire to continue learning and growing in the craft brewing industry.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Recipe creation and development
• Creating SOPs (standard operating procedures) for each phase of brewing, fermentation and packaging
• Operating brewhouse and producing batches from start to finish
• Yeast handling and management
• Fermentation management
• CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment
• Logging of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation and assisting with finishing and packaging
• Maintaining clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar
• Responsible for all preventative maintenance on all brewhouse and cellar equipment, as well as the taproom
• Willingness to help out with other tasks as needed, such as brewery tours and wholesale delivery.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
• 40+ hours per week, hours will vary at times and brewer must be flexible to work day, evenings, nights and some weekends when required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 2 + years’ experience in a commercial production packaging brewery
• Passion for NE IPAs and Stouts is a plus
• Mechanical experience and aptitude required
• An advanced understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP and sanitization
• An understanding of quality assurance (QA) methods and techniques, laboratory operations and basic knowledge of chemistry and biology is preferred
• Prior packaging, bottling, and racking experience preferred
• Excellent communication, time management, problem solving and organizational skills
• Natural leadership required with the ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision
• Must be sociable, willing and comfortable to represent the brewery at events and in public
• Must be a team player
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
• Frequently lift and/or move to 75 lbs above knee height
• Frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
• Frequently climb, twist, pull, stoop, lift and bend repetitively
• Ability to climb into small spaces(tanks)
• Withstand wet, hot, and cold conditions safely with potentially hazardous chemicals
