How would you like to get in on the ground floor of a regional sized production brewery? Sunken City Brewing Company is a newly constructed production brewery at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia and we're seeking an assistant brewer with brewery experience.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains with 500 miles of shoreline and clear blue waters, Smith Mountain Lake is home to 25,000 residents and thousands of visitors each year. The area is also known for exceptional outdoor recreation, boating, skiing, camping. The lake is also 30 mins from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail. Nearby cities are Roanoke and Lynchburg.
Job description
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Raw materials receiving, storage, and handling
Measure out raw materials according to brewery recipes
Tank cleaning and sanitation
Brewhouse cleaning and general cleanliness
Operate brewhouse equipment for wort production
Yeast pitching/management and harvesting
Running fermentations
Cellar transfers and filtration
Filter setup, breakdown, cleaning and sanitation
Tank cleaning, sanitation, CIP
Cold space cleaning and general cellar cleanliness
Keg filling
Line cleaning
Recipe development
Brew 10 gallon pilot batches on our Brew Magic
Help run QC and yeast lab.
You must be able to:
Able to stand for 8 hours.
Work as many hours/days per week as needed.
Able to lift 55 pounds many times a day.
Able to manipulate tri-clamp fittings.
Must have good critical thinking skills, and the ability to work unsupervised.
Preference will go to applicants with an education in the brewing sciences, or a degree in Chemistry or Biology.
This is a great opportunity for a new graduate, with tons of opportunity to grow with the company. The new hire will be trained and employed in all areas of a working production brewery including operating a canning line, working 1-2 nights a week in the tap room, pouring at festivals and assisting at other promotional events.
We plan to brew 1500bbl in our first year and aim for 10,000bbl in year 5.
About the Brewery:
SCBC brewed its first batch just weeks ago on a brand new 25bbl, 4 vessel Premier Stainless system. We will soon be releasing our first two brands in 12 oz cans, canned on a Cask canning line.
