    The Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company (GVBC) is a “brewery in planning” in search for a dedicated Head Brewer who is looking to become part of an exciting adventure as we grow GVBC into a regional brewery. Anticipate opening the brewery in December 2013 but looking to hire in June 2013. We want the Head Brewer to be involved in all details of equipment installation and brewery operations before actual beer production begins. We are finalizing the purchase on a 20 bbl Brewhouse utilizing a Meura Mash Filter. Annual production prediction is over 1800 bbls for the first year then increasing to 11,000 bbls by year five. The brewery will include a tasting room where pints, growlers, and kegs will be sold as well as “pub grub”. Packaging will initially be kegs quickly followed by cans. GVBC will occupy 8000 sqft of a warehouse with over 20,000 sqft available for expansion when needed. GVBC is located in a warehouse across the street from Smooth Ambler Distillery and six miles North of Lewisburg, West Virginia. We are 15 minutes from the Greenbrier Hotel, a four star resort, and one hour from Snowshoe Mountain Resort, a four season resort. We are one hour from the Shenandoah Valley and four hours from Washington DC and Ashville, NC all great craft beer locales. South East West Virginia is an outdoor paradise with numerous hiking, fishing, hunting, caving, camping areas to enjoy while experiencing the warm hospitable locals who are as excited about the brewery as we are. GVBC will be involved with a number of Craft Beer related events at the brewery and with local establishments, Snowshoe, Greenbrier Hotel, and Smooth Ambler which is a distillery located across the street from the proposed brewery. We will also be involved with charity events throughout the region.

    The right candidate will possess the following:

    • More than two (2) years prior professional brewing experience and/or formal brewing education.
    • Able to work well independently without supervision.
    • Be able to consult during brewery construction
    • Have packaging operation experience, both kegs and cans
    • Proven production of consistent, high-quality Craft Beers
    • Experience and passion for new recipe development
    • Good organizational skills
    • Safe chemical handling knowledge
    • Mechanical aptitude - Knowledge of machinery and systems
    Having Brewery Start-up experience would benefit any applicant’s consideration.

    Responsibilities & Duties include:
    • All Beer Production: Brewing (mashing, fermentation, conditioning, etc.), Cellaring, Filtration, Kegging,
    Canning, Yeast Management, Beer Transfers, Beer Filtration, and Carbonation
    • New recipe development (We have a Brew Magic System to use as a pilot)
    • Pre- and post-cleaning and sanitization of all transfer lines and vessels, etc.
    • Documentation of brewing activities
    • Plan beer production to ensure quality and supply to meet Brewery needs.
    • Prepare written reports and daily logs in relation to the beer making process.
    • Remain up to date on beer making techniques and abreast of consumer tastes in beer.
    • Maintain proper inventory of products and supplies
    • Preventive maintenance on equipment as required for safe, efficient and sanitary operations.
    • Attend all necessary training sessions and meetings as required by management.
    • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with GVBC procedures, rules and regulations.
    • Ability to accept directions and priorities from Management and reliably follow through on requested tasks.
    • Communicate sufficiently to send and receive information (verbal and written) clearly and accurately.
    • Adhere to all GVBC policies and procedures.
    • Any other duties as assigned by GVBC management.
    • Travel and attend tradeshows, fairs, and other events as required.
    • Technical- understands product, information and use.
    • Teamwork- Interacts well with others in a way that fosters good working relationships.
    • Public Relations--interacts well with all customers
    • Creativity--in the recipe formulation of new Craft Beer types and styles.
    • Quality Assurance Operations: Cell Counts, Pitch Rates, Gravity Measurements, DO Measurements, Process Sampling, Yeast Viability Measurement, Taste Panel.
    • Ordering and management of all raw materials
    • Education of Brewery Staff, Distributor Sales Reps, Retail locations, and others
    • Monthly inventory management and excise tax records
    The Head Brewer will have an assistant and a number of “cellar rats” to help.

    We are highly motivated and passionate about making Damn Good Beer for Damn Good People and becoming a regional brewery. To ensure we have the right Head Brewer who can best help satisfy that passion we will offer a competitive salary to include two week’s vacation per year, health coverage, and a 401K retirement program. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and desires we are willing to negotiate partial GVBC ownership, stockholder options and other bonuses. We want the Head Brewer to not only be a GVBC employee, but part of the family.
