Experienced Brewer Needed at Shanghai Brewery
Established in 2010, Shanghai Brewery has been awarded the “Best Brewery in Shanghai” in 2013 by City Weekend Magazine. Shanghai Brewery has grown to become the biggest and most popular brewpub in Shanghai (with two big branches) and we are expanding. We are looking for an experienced Brewer to join our team. This position at Shanghai Brewery is a unique opportunity for a brewer to become recognized in China, the biggest beer market in the world and where craft beer is still in its infancy (ie lots of opportunity).
Responsibilities
Our new Brewer will be responsible to head one of our facilities, a new facility currently being setup. The Brewer will be responsible for brewing and maintaining the operations of the entire facility and will manage assistants to ensure that the brewery is: efficient, hygienic and producing really delicious high-quality beers. The Brewer should follow some existing established recipes (possibly with recipe tweaks) to make sure that our beer is as beer-thirst-quenching as possible as well as frequently suggesting new recipes/ brews for our customers to enjoy. We hope that our brewer will be able to recommend and help implement improvements to our system with the aim of brewing some of the best beer in Asia. We also would like our Brewer to help maintain the brewing equipment to keep it in as good condition as possible.
Our new Brewer should also sometimes attend brewing competitions (such as the Asia Beer Cup, is which the Brewer’s beers will be entered), as well as sometimes giving brewery tours, etc.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with good all-round experience. Someone who knows brewing operations inside out. From recipe formulation to kegging. We need someone hands-on, who can problem-solve for whatever issues may come up. Hopefully, our new Brewer will have good qualifications and/ or experience that will make it possible to manage all of the brewing operations. We expect our new Brewer to have the following qualifications:
- Loves making great beer!
- Certificate or Diploma from a Brewing Institution
- 3+ years of commercial brewing experience
- Well-organized, able to manage brewery, brewing ingredients and other staff
- Hands-on, our Brewer will be expected to get down and dirty from loading up the brewery equipment for brewing to cleaning and kegging, etc. Lots of lifting of ingredients will be involved.
- Hard-working, we expect our head brewer to set an example for the brewing assistants, so that they can see what is expected of them.
Shanghai
We know that moving to Shanghai, China, is a big move. We will do what we can to help our Brewer settle in. Shanghai has become a very cosmopolitan city that has a good and easy way of life. Most things you can get in the USA are also available in Shanghai. And there is a big community of Expatriates (Americans, Europeans, Australians, etc) here.
