    ASSITANT BREWER/ CELLARMAN POSTION

    JOB SUMMARY:
    This position will require work as both Brewer and Cellerman.
    Under the work direction of the Brewmaster and/or Head Brewer, Assitant Brewer/ Cellerman is primarily responsible for cleaning and filling all kegs of beer that are produced and all aspects of the brewing process.

    ASSISTANT BREWER/CELLERMAN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Clean out kegs and casks
    • Fill kegs and casks
    • Work on the bottling line
    • Clean the brewery facilities
    • Clean and maintain the keg washing and milling areas
    • Load and unload trucks
    • Assist with maintenance and overall cleanliness of entire brewery and cellar including tank exteriors and floors
    • Mill in all grains required for each individual brew
    • Mash in brews according to temperature and water specifications for each brew
    • Clean out and prepare mash tun for the next brew
    • Perform laudering activities
    • Perform wort boiling
    • Perform whirlpool activities
    • Perform wort chilling and knock out
    • Perform brewhouse CIP
    • Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control work including gravity and pH checks on product
    • Maintain hot and cold water for all brewery operations
    • Perform tank CIP’s
    • Filter beer
    • Dry hop beer
    • Carbonate beer
    • Take daily gravities
    • Fill casks
    • Pitch yeast
    • Maintain wash down equipment
    • Clean out kegs and casks
    • Fill kegs and casks
    • Clean tap lines and jockey boxes
    • Maintain packaging records
    • Clean and maintain the keg washing and milling areas
    • Train other employees
    • Assist with maintenance and overall cleanliness of entire brewery and cellar including tank exteriors and floors
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • Completed training and/ or education at an accredited brewing institute is preferred
    • Completion of apprenticeship in working brewing is preferred
    • 3+ years experience in a packaging brewery is preferred
    • Proven mechanical/electrical experience with beer or other production machinery
    • Knowledge of beer production, storage and packaging is preferred
    • Excellent record keeping and attention to detail and communication skills
    • Enthusiasm and strong personal knowledge of the microbrewery industry and market is preffered
    • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications
    • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, and computer equipment
    • Ability to work well with co-workers in a production and office/ non climate controlled warehouse environment
    • Ability to change multi-task and remain flexible
    • Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull 50 pounds
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    o While performing the duties the employee is:
    • constantly required to stand
    • constantly required to use fine manipulation and simple grasping in order to handle production equipment and to utilize the computer and other standard office equipment such as telephone, fax machines, copiers, etc.
    • constantly required to view objects at close and distant ranges

    • frequently required to use sense of taste and smell
    • frequently required to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 lbs
    o Equipment typically used: Brewhouse, fermenters, bright beer tanks, cold liquor tank, glycol chillers, DE filter, Keg washer, keg fill rig, portable pumps, pallet jack, forklift, and computers for record keeping

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    Employee frequently works in a brewery environment with a moderate amount of noise and activity. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding. The warehouse/work area is not climate controlled.
    EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • High School diploma or GED equivalency
    • 1+ years of related warehouse and/or brewery experience
    • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications
    • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, and computer equipment
    • Attention to details
    • Enthusiasm and strong personal knowledge of the microbrewery industry and market is preferred
    • Ability to work well co-workers in a production and office/warehouse environment
    • Ability to change tasks quickly and still maintain attention
    • Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull 50 pounds
