About Us:
Yee- Haw Brewing Company is a new craft brewery located in beautiful Johnson City, Tennessee. Yee-Haw is focused on creating a quality mix of the finest ales and lagers that celebrate good times and good company. Not lacking in character, the brewery itself is located in the 130+ year old ET&WNC train depot in the heart of downtown Johnson City, a lively, welcoming community complete with the Appalachian Mountains as its backdrop. Equipped with a strong leadership team, years of experience in the beer, wine and spirits industries and a robust brewing system, Yee-Haw is poised and ready to quickly expand throughout East Tennessee, surrounding markets, and beyond — all while having a damn good time doing it!
About This Role:
The QA/QC Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive quality program encompassing in-process and finished beer, raw materials, and beer in trade. In addition, and in concert with the other department heads, he or she will champion a culture of “Safety and Quality First” in all aspects of day-to-day operations.
Primary Duties:
• Work with the Brewmaster to development and implement a comprehensive analytical, sensory, and microbiological standard testing program
• Install and commission all analytical equipment and source new equipment as needed.
• Insure rigorous adherence to all quality standards and specifications
• Hire, lead, and develop a team of cross-functional, empowered lab technicians to support the growth of the brewery
• Using Statistical Process Control tools analyze data to identify potential “out of control” processes and recommend corrective action
• Work with vendors to ensure that are raw material quality expectations are being met
• Maintain all analytical equipment in a reliable operational state
• Keep the lab clean and safe
• In conjunction with other department heads, ensure a safe work environment for all Yee-Haw employees; this includes OSHA compliance, conducting safety audits, maintaining up-to-date MSDS sheets, etc.
• Participate in daily sensory evaluations and ensure constant open dialogue with the Brewmaster and QA Lab Supervisor
• Recommend annual budget and ensure conformance to target
• Track and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and Quality Metrics
• Other duties may be required from time-to-time as deemed necessary by the Company to support business objectives.
Our Ideal Candidate:
• Passionate about craft beer
• Minimum of three years in a brewing QA/QC leadership role
• Can supervise the brewing process and if necessary perform brewing functions
• Proficient in ASBC and EBC analytical methodologies
• B.Sc. in a biology or chemistry (formal brewing education a plus)
• Strong technical understanding of the brewing process and able to troubleshoot process issues
• Takes pride in their job and exudes a positive “can do” attitude
• Goal oriented and able to enroll others in attaining those goals
• Very organized with great attention to detail
• Level-headed, even-tempered, team player who is comfortable with controlled chaos
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (experience with ERP software a plus)
