    JOB TITLE: Lead Brewer
    LOCATION: Brewery, Comstock, MI
    REPORTS TO: Beer Production Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Hourly Employee
    SHIFT: 2nd shift (Monday-Friday 1:00pm – 9:00pm), with some weekend coverage.
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 06/09/2015-06/23/2015

    SUMMARY: As a key member of the Beer Production leadership team, the Lead Brewer will be responsible for all day-to-day Beer Production activities on their assigned shifts. Responsibilities include supervising shift brewers, troubleshooting production issues and fostering an atmosphere of cooperation, teamwork and continuous improvement while upholding the high safety and quality standards of Bell’s Brewery, Inc.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc. and is accountable for the safety of direct reports.
    •Leads all day-to-day Beer Production activities on assigned shift.
    •Facilitates communication with team, other shift leaders and the Beer Production management team.
    •Directly responsible for maintaining Bell’s quality standards in all aspects of Beer Production.
    •Advocates a continuous improvement culture.
    •Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company.
    •Manages team’s scheduling and timecards.
    •Actively engages team towards developing their professional goals.
    •Conducts annual performance appraisals with all direct reports.
    •Effectively represent team’s needs in regularly scheduled Beer Production meetings regarding production scheduling, beer quality, and human resources.
    •Assists in maintaining all department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    •Holds self and employees accountable for maintaining a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment.
    •Ensures completion of Beer Production operator Preventative Maintenance tasks.
    •Conducts critical assessment of Bell’s beers through active participation in sensory panels.
    •Reviews and acts upon critical process control data.
    •Troubleshoots and solves production problems in a systematic fashion.
    •Fills in for team members in case of illness or vacation.
    •Works off shifts including weekends and holidays, as needed.
    •Facilitates future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current processes.
    •Works with team on new product development initiatives.
    •Talent acquisition and training of new Beer Production team members (as needed).

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    MANGERIAL/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Leads and Manages four (4) Production Brewers

    •21 years or older

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Computers and other process automation systems
    •Brewing raw materials
    •Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals
    •Pumps, hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort addressing diverse groups.
    •Computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Self-motivated with good time management skills.
    •Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •Extensive brewery experience, including roles in leadership positions.
    •Demonstrated mastery of the brewing process.
    •Outstanding communication and problem solving skills.

    •Must be able to participate in critical assessment of beers.

    •The work environment is usually that of a brewery.
    •The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, and steam.
    •The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
