Position: Shift Brewer
The Brooklyn Brewery is searching for an experienced brewer to join our world-class team at our facility in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We are a rapidly growing company and currently the 11th largest craft-brewery in the US and one of, if not the top exporters of craft beer. We are looking for someone who is energetic, passionate about high-quality craft beer, and willing to work hard with our fantastic team of brewers. Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Wort production on 50 bbl Rolec automated brewhouse
o Brewhouse operation is performed on rotating shifts, including overnights
o Covering shifts for absent brewers as needed
o Helping to maintain the proper culture comprised of good work ethic, working safely, teamwork, and creativity
o Completing paperwork and spreadsheets with timeliness and accuracy
o Maintaining consistency in wort quality
o Assisting Head Brewer with projects
• Ensure flow of production in the Brewhouse can be maintained, including:
o Ensuring all ingredients needed for upcoming production are available
o Working with Cellar to ensure tank and yeast availability
o Informing the Head Brewer of any mechanical issues requiring maintenance
o Correcting unsafe or unsanitary conditions, or reporting them to Head Brewer
o Preparation of fermenting vessels as needed
• Work with Head Brewer on a housekeeping schedule for the Brewhouse and ingredient stores, as well as ensuring this schedule is maintained.
Qualifications and skills:
Candidate must have at least two years of experience in production brewing. A brewing degree from an accredited institution is a plus. Candidate must embrace high standards of quality, cleanliness and safety.
Candidate must be able to:
• Lift 60 pounds while climbing stairs
• Maneuver 55 gallon drums between pallets safely
• Maneuver oxygen tanks safely
• Work at height
• Operate a forklift and powered hand truck
• Be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, overnights and occasional brief weekend work
