    Assistant Brewer Job Description

    Assistant Brewer will be hard working, highly motivated, quality focused, safety driven, and team oriented. Willing to assist in all jobs around the brewery. Will be able to act as head brewer in some circumstances, so leadership and troubleshooting skills are mandatory.

    Requirements:
    • Aid Brewmaster in reaching production goals
    • Work with management to understand goals
    • Adapt to new tasks readily
    • Maintain consistent fast-paced work flow
    • Identify opportunities for improvements
    • QA & QC techniques & beer analytics
    • Record keeping skills
    • Manage time & prioritize tasks
    • Cost control management
    • Brew house efficiency, trouble shooting, routine maintenance, tasks on pumps, valves, tanks etc.
    • Carbonate and test beers in cellar
    • Maintaining a sanitary environment
    • Wort Production (milling, mashing, boiling, hop additions, chilling wort)
    • Able to troubleshoot under pressure and fix problems during brewing process without losing product or contaminating products.
    • Harvest yeast and pitch
    • Yeast cell counts
    • CIP and sanitary procedures followed.
    • Record Keeping and reporting to the Brewmaster.
    • Beer transferring, filtering, dry hopping additions.
    • Cleaning brewhouse at the end of the day.
    • Making soda for the VBC Alehouse
    • Performs other tasks and assignments as instructed by the Brewmaster.
    • At a minimum, home brewing experience is required.
    • You should have a strong focus on quality, safety and efficiency, constantly evaluating work practices in the spirit of "always improving".
    • You must be able to lift up to 65 pounds repeatedly and maneuver 175 lbs. kegs as needed.
    • Must be able to twist/turn, reach over shoulders and stand/walk on a continual basis.
    • Work on your feet for over eight hours at a time.
    • Work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.
    • Work with chemicals of varying composition.
    • Work in damp/wet areas.
    • Ability to multi-task and follow standard operating procedures.
    • Work independently as well as a team player.
    • Strong mechanical ability with problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to work all shifts, additional hours & weekends as necessary
    • A desire to learn and grow with the company and maintain a positive attitude
    • Ability to operate an electric pallet jack and forklift certification
    • You must be an open and good communicator. Respect for fellow co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
    • A great attitude and passion for craft beer is required!
