A yet-to-be-named brewery is slated to open on the north shore of Canandaigua Lake, NY in December 2016/January 2017.
As a brewery in planning, we are seeking a highly qualified, driven, and creative brewer who will play an integral role in the development of our beers and our brand. We are looking for a brewer who believes in our overall vision of making great beer with a collaborative team.
Operating a 35bbl system, our brewer will be responsible for working with us to formulate a well-rounded selection of inaugural beers to offer visitors to our tasting room and craft beer lovers across New York State.

Summary Job Description:
The head brewer is responsible for leading the brewing team and all related activities
He or she will oversee a brand new 35bbl system as well as the operation of an in-house canning line
The head brewer will be an ambassador of the brewery by representing us at events, key accounts, and with vendors
The head brewer will be committed to training and mentoring all brewing/production staff[/INDENT]
Responsibilities:
Establish flavor targets for inaugural lineup of beers
Develop ingredient requirements, monitoring inventory, and working with the team and vendors to secure high quality, competitively priced ingredients based on brewing projections
Evaluate wort and beer quality on a daily basis to ensure process consistency and taste
Implement improvements to recipes, beer flavor and consistency by regularly evaluating new ingredients and processes
Manage the brew plan to ensure scheduling and production to fulfill company requirements. Ensure supply is sufficient, quality is high, and appropriate inventory levels are maintained
Seek out opportunities for new products, ingredients, brewing techniques, technical developments, and processes
Establish strong vendor relationships to maximize purchasing power and manage inventory
Ensure that all equipment and operating systems are of sufficient capacity, reliable, and contribute to the quality of our beer
Ensure a safe work environment and a culture that promotes safe work habits, demonstrates an understanding of risks and compliance with regulations, and prioritizes corrective action of any identified safety hazards or risks
Ensure HACCP and specific brewery procedures are followed at all times by keeping production areas clean and organized
Serve as a resource for equipment maintenance, reliability, and process optimization
Assist in hiring and managing of brewery team and ensure each role is fully staffed and trained
Develop a training program to foster the professional growth of the team
Assist in developing and maintaining brewery best practices and standard operating procedures
Ability to physically lift a keg, or approximately 165lbs
Desired Skills and Experience
5 years directly related experience in brewery management or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with a 15bbl system or greater.
Knowledge of QA techniques and beer analytics is required, including industrial refrigeration, boiler operation, CO2 distribution and collection
Experience in packaging, DE filtration, and yeast management
Working knowledge of office and project management tools is a plus
