  • Head Brewer Wanted - South New Jersey

    We are an established NJ brewery looking for a brewer to manage the brewery’s day-to-day operations in a new 15-20 BBL production facility. Initially, the individual will work closely with the brewery’s founders to complete the build-out process, including setting-up new equipment (brew house, fermenters, brights....etc.), establishing operating procedures etc. We place enormous value on character traits such as creativity, hard-work, self-motivation, loyalty, attention to detail, accountability, and professionalism. Additionally, the applicant must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be our Head Brewer:

    • Three (3) plus years experience as a professional brewer (lead shift brewer at a 15 BBL or larger brewery)
    • Familiar with reporting requirements to the TTB and NJ ABC.
    • Experience using traditional brewing techniques like barrel aging, cellaring and blending casks, etc;
    • Experience brewing, cellaring, blending, and packaging sour beers in a professional setting;
    • Experience managing and propagating different yeast strains;
    • Experience kegging and bottling
    • Experience bottle conditioning, as well as force carbonating;
    • Experience with beer clarification and filtration techniques;
    • Formal brewing and related education is not a requirement, but is preferred;
    • Lab experience is a plus;
    • The ability to communicate with and manage others;
    • The ability to work on your own with little or no supervision;
    • Strong mechanical and problem solving skills;
    • Strong verbal communication and organizational skills;
    • Passionate about all things beer and ability to communicate beer knowledge (Cicerone / BJCP certification preferred, but not required);
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends
    • Ability to maintain valid Driver’s License;
    • Ability to maintain a clean and safe workplace;
    • Must be at least 21 years of age;

    In addition to the bullets listed under the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section listed above, the Head Brewer will also have the following additional Duties and Responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

    • Perform all duties in a safe manner;
    • Perform all brewing tasks with cleaning and sanitizing procedures as one of the primary focus at all times;
    • Help create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the brewery, including safety; cleaning and sanitizing; quality, etc.;
    • Help to create and manage an inventory scheme;
    • Record and analyze all brewhouse information accurately and legibly;
    • Be computer literate and have familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel);
    • File appropriate Federal TTB and State ABC reports.
    • Give tours, and participate in festival and competitions as required;
    • Help to educate tap room staff and retail accounts about the brewery’s beer;
    • Operate a forklift.

    Physical demands at the brewery include, but are not limited to:

    • Working with potentially dangerous equipment, high noise levels, and hazardous materials;
    • Standing for long periods of times;
    • Working in hot, cold, and wet environments;
    • Climbing stairs and ladders;
    • Bending, moving or lifting 150+ pounds safely;
    • Using repetitive motions when brewing.
