Brewer - Full-Time - Immediate Opening

Position Responsibilities and Duties
The brewer is responsible for the following: raw materials management, yeast propagation, wort creation, fermentation management, conditioning, packaging, and batch record-keeping. In addition, he or she is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the brewery area and brewing equipment. He or she is expected to adhere to all relevant company standard operating procedures. He or she is also expected to regularly communicate with the production manager to keep the manager informed of the activities in the brewery and any issues that may arise. The brewer is ultimately accountable for meeting the production goals and objectives set by the production manager that are consistent with the responsibilities outlined above.

Bachelor's degree or 2 to 3 years' production brewing experience
Brewing and industry certifications preferred
Industry references encouraged

Strong understanding of brewing science
Strong understanding of brewing process and procedure best practices
Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills

Physical Position Requirements
An employee in this position works primarily in a manufacturing environment, working in, on, and around vessels and pipes under pressure containing air, CO₂, water, beer, chemicals, steam, and hazardous chemicals. The nature of the position requires one to frequently reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as to ascend and descend a staircase repeatedly throughout the shift. As the work areas are mechanical in nature and may be elevated, the employee may be required to complete fall protection training and/or special training for entering confined spaces. The brewer will do a significant amount of walking and work on wet, slippery surfaces. Process temperatures vary from 32°F to 212°F, a fact that ensures varying ambient temperature conditions. The brewer may encounter some level of dust from the handling of malt raw materials, will be frequently exposed to strong and sometimes disagreeable odors, and will be occasionally exposed to caustic and acidic chemicals. The brewer will be expected to handle objects weighing up to 170 pounds occasionally and/or objects weighing up to 55 pounds frequently. The employee in this position must be able to operate an employer-provided vehicle and forklift.
The employee in this position works primarily in a manufacturing environment, but this position also requires he or she to use a computer approximately 25% of the time. While the brewer works primarily at the brewery, he or she must have the ability to travel when required. The brewer must be able to work on a flexible schedule, and will often work nights, weekends, and holidays.
